Dear Fellow Aurorans:
As long time residents (and now senior citizens), we are very proud that our son Jeffrey is the Aurora Town Justice.
He is now running to retain his seat in this month’s Primary, and we’d like to share some thoughts about his family
background and personal development.
Jeff’s paternal grandparents immigrated from Italy to live on a farm with very limited resources. In their ethnic
tradition, they raised 8 children to be kind and respectful to others, and instilled in them values of honesty, fairness,
compassion, and sensitivity, especially to the disadvantaged. These same values were very important to our careers as
a physician and registered nurse, and we tried to pass them along to our own children, often referring to the Golden
Rule as recorded in Matthew 7:12 “Do unto others what you would have them do unto you.”
We are proud of Jeff’s career accomplishments, but fondly remember his days as a youngster. He attended K-12 in
our East Aurora schools where he was in the National Honor Society. Jeff played Aurora Arsenals soccer, and displayed
great sportsmanship in twice representing EAHS and Section VI in the New York State Tennis Championships. He
graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Rochester, and then from the University of
Buffalo’s Law School. Jeff always had his tennis racket, and competed nationally on his collegiate teams as well as the
national Public Parks Tennis Championships. We’re proud to now watch him play with his own children, knowing that he
values a well-rounded education and lifetime sports.
Jeff is not only a loving son, husband and father, but he is also a product of East Aurora who has re-invested
himself back into our community through 16 straight years of public service. He is active in local projects through the
EA Rotary Club, and as Trustee on the Rotary and Suburban Adult Services Foundation Boards. From 1993-2002 Jeff
served on the East Aurora Board of Education, and took seriously his responsibilities in that important service to our
community. He understands that such volunteer work is an important way of giving back to where he came from.
Professionally, Jeff has been representing his clients and helping litigants solve problems for more than 18 years.
Even before he became our Town Judge, Jeff had been resolving disputes as a Town Prosecutor, Buffalo City Court
Hearing Officer, Erie County Bar Association Arbitrator, Judicially Appointed Referee, Court Evaluator, Guardian, and
attorney for children throughout his career. When we hear his colleagues speak of his professional reputation and
character traits of honesty, fairness, respect, and compassion, we are proud that our own parents’ values have been
carried through the next generation of Markellos.
We’ve watched Jeff work very hard over the years and we ask you to help elect him to a full four year term so he can
continue to make our community the safe place we all love to call home. Jeff’s work as Judge is non-partisan so you can
cast your ballot for him as a Republican, Democrat, Conservative, Independence or Working Families voter.
Please join us in going to the polls on September 15th. Thank you.
