									                                   Board of Education Meeting

                                          April 20, 2012

The Appleton City Board of Education met on Wednesday, April 18, 2012. Members present:
Jeff Cook, Darrell Dains, Daryl Foster, Richard Grishow, Ron Hargrave, Travis Jones, and Janet
Payton. Also present were Steve Beckett Superintendent, Tammy Burchett Elementary
Principal, Jessica McClure, Cathy Grishow, Eric and Vicki Christie, and Cindy Arms. Absent:
Kevin Mitchell High School Principal

Board President Janet Payton called the meeting to order at 7:03 and led those in attendance in
the Pledge of Allegiance.

The board approved the consent agenda.

The 2011-2012 Board of Education adjourned.

New board member Jessica McClure and incumbent Jeff Cook were sworn in as the new
members of the 2012-2013 School Board.

The 2012-2013 Board of Education was called to order.

Ron Hargrave made the motion, seconded by Jessica McClure for the slate of officers to remain
the same for the 2012-2013 school year. Vote 7-0.

President Janet Payton, Vice-President Travis Jones, Secretary Jeff Cook, and Treasurer Daryl

Board President Janet Payton presented outgoing Board Member Richard Grishow with a
plaque. She thanked Richard for dedication, knowledge, and service to the Appleton City
School District. Several members commented that it was a pleasure to work with Richard for
the past five years.

In new business:

Superintendent Steve Beckett reported to the board that the Health Insurance premiums are
increasing by 4.9%. This is positive news especially during these tough economic times.

Ron Hargrave made the motion seconded by Jeff Cook to approve the slate of classified staff as
presented. Vote 7-0.

Superintendent Steve Beckett gave a budget update for the 2011-2012 school year. He
indicated that through March 2012 the district has a balance of $1,602,073 compared to
$1,490,276 through March of 2011. The increase in revenues is a result of a higher tax
collection rate, a slight increase in assessed valuation, the Emints program, and a slight
increase in budgeted formula calculations.
Elementary Principal Tammy Burchett reported the following to the board:

There are a total of 123 students currently enrolled in grades K-5.

Principal Burchett listed several upcoming activities that can be found on the school calendar.

The elementary PTO held a carnival on Friday, April 13.

Fifteen K-5 students are eligible to attend the Young Author’s Conference May 5th in Nevada,

PAT Director Jina Hill held the kindergarten screening on April 5th. She indicated that 17
children will enroll in kindergarten next year.

Superintendent Beckett reported for high school Principal Kevin Mitchell.

There are currently 183 students enrolled in grades 6-12.

The following students placed in the area FFA contest.

1st Megan Oberly –Chapter Secretary Book, 2nd Ethan Bracher Ownership record book, Carly
Schooley Placement record book, and Caitlin Hilte Chapter Treasurers book, 3rd Ashley Knight,
Rachel Strope Chapter Scrapbook, and Carter Mitchell Beginner record book.

Congratulations to the following FFA teams who qualified for State: Entomology: Taylor Bock,
Ashley Fennewald, Mickaela Moore, and Rachel Strope; Agronomy: Ethan Bracher, Adam
Dains, Straton Raybourn, and Ethan Engeman; Horse Judging: Ashley Knight, Dekota Norris,
Chelsy Roth, and Emily Bracher.

Mr. Swisher’s Drama student’s performed their annual Spring Play on April 6th and 7th. The cast
and crew did an outstanding job!

Map testing for the Middle School will be April 23 thru April 26th. EOC testing in the high school
will begin April 30th.

Graduation will be Sunday, May 6th at 2:00 pm.

The board came out of closed session at 8:02

Ron Hargrave made the motion, seconded by Jessica McClure to hire Ashleigh Mitchell for high
school English. Vote 7 – 0.

Darrell Dains made the motion, seconded by Daryl Foster to hire Jennifer Eckers for 7-12 Math.

The board voted to adjourn the board meeting at 8:06 P.M.
