11   TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR SANDRA AULL ANDERSON,
12   OWNER AND BROKER-IN-CHARGE OF A-Z REALTY IN
13   GREENWOOD, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR
14   RECEIVING THE 2011 SOUTH CAROLINA MINORITY
15   SMALL BUSINESS CHAMPION AWARD FROM THE
16   UNITED STATES SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION.

18   Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly
19   are pleased to learn that Sandra Aull Anderson will receive the
20   United States Small Business Administration Minority Small
21   Business Champion Award for South Carolina on May 4, 2011;
22   and
23
24   Whereas, born in Greenwood, Sandra Anderson graduated from
25   Greenwood High School and attended Benedict College before
26   receiving a bachelor’s degree in sociology at Lander College in
27   1976; and
28
29   Whereas, in 1974, she married her high-school sweetheart, and,
30   after she earned her college degree and he completed his military
31   service, the Andersons combined Sandra’s talent for floral
32   designing with their desire to have their own business and opened
33   their own flower shop; and
34
35   Whereas, seven years later, when the building that housed Sandra’s
36   business was sold, she went to work as a postal carrier and
37   remained there successfully for sixteen years until she felt a strong
38   desire to again have her own business; and
39
40   Whereas, she attended Piedmont Technical College at night to take
41   the real estate course to become a licensed realtor. After obtaining
42   her license and having a very successful two years as a part time

 1   agent, Sandra left the post office and opened her own company,
 2   A-Z Realty;
 3
 4   Whereas, in spite of her plans to be her company’s only agent, her
 5   business grew so rapidly that, with the help of the Greenwood
 6   office of the Small Business Administration, she designed a
 7   business plan envisioning five agents that has now grown to eight;
 8   and
 9
10   Whereas, the United States Small Business Administration was
11   created in 1953 to aid, counsel, assist, and protect small
12   businesses, to preserve free, competitive enterprise, and to
13   maintain and strengthen the nation’s economy. The Small
14   Business Association annually presents the Minority Small
15   Business Champion award to an individual in each state who has
16   supported and assisted small minority-owned businesses through
17   outstanding efforts; and
18
19   Whereas, Sandra’s selection as the South Carolina Minority Small
20   Business Champion is testimony to her selfless dedication and
21   tireless efforts to promote minority entrepreneurship. Her strong
22   advocacy has encouraged the development and ongoing viability
23   of many minority-owned businesses, especially those related to the
24   housing industry, such as building contractors, electricians, home
25   inspectors, plumbers, insurance agents, pest-control companies,
26   and attorneys; and
27
28   Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly
29   celebrate the success and recognition of Sandra Aull Anderson and
30   wish her continued fulfillment as one of our state’s leading small
31   business entrepreneurs. Now, therefore,
32
33   Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
34   concurring:
35
36   That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this
37   resolution, recognize and honor Sandra Aull Anderson, owner and
38   broker-in-charge of A-Z Realty in Greenwood, and congratulate
39   her for receiving the South Carolina 2011 Minority Small Business
40   Champion Award from the United States Small Business
41   Administration.
