                              FIELD APPRAISER
                                         ASSESSOR'S OFFICE
Starting Salary: $1,220.40 Bi-weekly – Equivalent to $31,730 per year.

This is a full time 40-hour per week position and includes a full range of paid benefits including vacation, sick
leave, holidays, tuition reimbursement and employee health, dental, life, disability and retirement programs.

JOB DESCRIPTION:                        Conducts field audits of construction on existing properties and/or new
construction. Records measurements of existing structures, and new construction improvements. Reviews building
permits in the department computer for properties to be field worked. Creates index of parcels to be exported into
hand held computers. Enters scale drawings of buildings and notes materials used and conditions of foundations,
exterior walls, floors, interior finishes, electrical, plumbing and roofing materials into a computerized hand held
sketching program to be updated into main computer. Plans route for daily inspections using electronic county map in
hand held computer for efficient canvassing of areas. Researches properties to be field worked. Examines building
permits to verify address and location number. Assists taxpayers over the phone and in person with questions
regarding their appraisal process. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:                   Requires graduation from a general or technical high school or equivalent. Requires
one year previous experience in field appraisal, construction inspection or a related field. Completion of IAAO
Course #1 - Fundamentals of Real Estate Appraisal is desirable. An equivalent combination of education, training
and experience will be considered. Skill in gathering construction data and measurement at job sites. Knowledge of
construction industry, construction materials, and real estate terminology and values. Knowledge of safety
standards on construction sites. Knowledge of state laws regarding real estate assessment. Knowledge of the
appraisal process and all deadlines required to meet state statutory requirements. Knowledge of departmental
procedures and practices. Ability to read maps and to use basic math. Ability to draw improvements to scale with
proper coding for entry into hand held computer. Ability to use computers for data entry and analysis. Ability to
interact with government officials, co-workers and the general public. Strong verbal and written communication skills
required. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, a satisfactory driving record and a properly licensed
vehicle. Requires successful completion of math test with a 75% accuracy and a 50% accuracy on the written
appraisal test.
