Letter from the President-AFP Las Vegas Chapter
September 2009

Hello Friends & Colleagues,

The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Las Vegas Chapter is alive and well and we have so much to
share from exciting educational opportunities to plans for a remarkable marketing program. One of our
most promising events for this fall is the 2009 National Philanthropy Day Conference and Luncheon
(http://www.afplasvegas.org/events/2009-philanthropy-day.html ) featuring world renown speaker
Jerry Panas (http://www.jeroldpanas.com/ ) Panas will present a morning-long seminar aimed primarily
at those staff members, volunteers and board members responsible for building relationships with
persons considered to be prospective donors to various non-profit organizations and institutions. With
his celebrated wit and style he will take his audience through a brief interactive session he calls “The
Future Isn’t What It Used to Be.” He will follow with a more serious challenge to fundraising
professionals titled “Aim High,” focusing on steps leading to the all-important request for financial
support. Much of the presentation will be based on his recent book, “Asking.” Everyone attending will
receive a complimentary copy, and Panas has agreed to personally autograph them. Following the
seminar the audience will increase threefold as honorees, guests and celebrities gather for the annual
Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon. The event will be held at Nevada Partners – Culinary Training
Academy (http://www.theculinaryacademy.org ) and Dr.Panas will deliver the luncheon address.

Additional current news from AFP includes the development of a collaborative partnership with
professional marketing and advertising organizations including the American Ad Federation
(http://www.aaflasvegas.org/ ), American Marketing Association (http://www.amalasvegas.com ) and
Public Relations Society of America (http://www.prsalasvegas.com ). The purpose of the collaborative
partnerships is to increase awareness of AFP, extend our outreach and recognition of organizations
which serve non-profits and offer our members and sponsors more opportunities. This collaboration will
offer the creative and award winning recognition for advertising, marketing, and pr firms and support
AFP member organizations with their strategic marketing and advertising goals.

Look for more valuable resources from AFP as we continue to grow and succeed at Building Community
Together! Thank you for your continued support of the AFP mission and our local Las Vegas Chapter.

Yours for AFP,

Heather Estus, AFP President
Principal, Seven & Company
