					A teenager who looks unhappy is commonplace. However, please be aware if unhappiness has
continued for more than two weeks. There are many reasons why a teenager feel unhappy. Stressful
environment can trigger depression. With the depression, guilt feelings may arise, decline in school
performance, social interactions, deviations of sexual orientation, as well as disruption of teenage life in
the family.

Depression is a serious disorder that can affect thoughts, feelings, behavior, and general health.
Depression knows no age. Old, young, adults, even teenagers can be affected by depression. Triggered
by trivial issues, it could be teenagers who are depressed do things that are not commonly imagined. The
most dangerous of the depression was the emergence of suicidal ideation or suicide attempts.


Definition of Depression
Depression is a mental disorder characterized by the specific feelings of sadness, hopelessness, loss of
passion, guilt, slow thinking, and decreased motivation to perform the activity.


Symptoms of Depression
Consider the following signs for the presence of depression in adolescents:

    Feeling sad, anxious, and have no hope
    No appetite or eating lots that cause a decrease or increase in weight in a short time
    Awake at night, but sleep all day
    Pulling away from her friends, moody
    Activity and decreased school performance, decreased motivation and interest
    Easily upset and offended, being sensitive to criticism
    Low self-esteem and felt very guilty
    Decreased concentration, difficulty making decisions
    A change in eating or sleeping habits
    Have a mind to commit suicide

If these signs occur several days to several weeks, should be consulted on health. Treatments that can
be done through talking therapy, and medication use.


Treatment of Depression in Teens
There are different methods to do therapy for adolescents with depression. Health personnel will consider
the appropriate method for each individual. Such as by using cognitive behavioral therapy, psychotherapy
psychodinamic, interpersonal psychoterapy, supportive therapy or using drugs.


Input for Parents
Being a parent of a teenager is a challenge. Some communication techniques will be required and assist
parents in membasarkan teenager.

    When disciplining children, not by punishing and shaming. Replace sentence by helping provide
solutions in a good way. Punishment and shame can make an adolescent feel worthless.
     Let your teen make mistakes. Attitude overproteksi or parents who are always making decisions
teenagers make them believe that they do not have the ability. It can make her confidence diminished.
     Provide a space for young people to 'breathe'. Do not expect them to do things exactly as you wish
parents.
     Do not force your child to have the same activities and experiences with you as a teenager first.
     If you suspect that your child depressed, give time to listen. Although ana think that the problem is not
a serious problem. Open communication between parents and children is essential, especially when the
child shows symptoms of resistance.
     Take time to listen to their problems without criticism or judgment.
     Do not also underestimate what they feel, sometimes teens have an overreaction to a problem but
parents should try to understand that what they are feeling really happened.
     Sometimes teenagers do not seek advice or a solution to their problems, rather the support and
acceptance of it, so whatever happens assured the teen that you will always accompany and help them
whenever needed.
     Once the teens are ready to present their problems, do not interrupt or try to cut the set, just listen to
their stories.

If it is a problem that occurs is beyond the ability of the youth and your own, tell them about the possibility
of existing conditions and discuss alternative ways so that the problem can be helped.
