to the main area of production. A long
table is dotted with items in various stages
of preparation. A large kiln is in a well
ventilated area, ready for when items are
to be fired.
Josefa explains the various stages of
production, from creating molds for each
item to prepping the clay to drying pro-
cess to the firing, after which each little
figuring is cooled and the fun begins: paint-
ing. Each of the ladies takes pride in their
handiwork – and the lovely colors reflect
the artist within.
After a jaunt into the jungle, and inter-
acting with the natives, the best way to
hold on to the memories is perhaps with
a figurine, a sheaf of papers using that
flower of leaf you saw along the way, an
earring to remember the fruit you had,
or even a beautifully embroidered blouse
or matching pillowcases to rest your head
at night, as you dream of beautiful Belize.

down the street from the Christian Pri-
mary School, or call 668-2146.

others live in the deep ocean. They live on or near the
ocean floor—sometimes partially buried beneath it.
They feed on tiny particles like algae, minute aquatic

ecosystem just like earthworms!
Sea cucumbers, particularly eggs and young larvae,
are prey for fish and other marine animals. They are
also enjoyed by humans, especially in Asia, and some
species are farmed as delicacies.
