Texas Woman Killed in Auto Accident
Waxahachie, TX (Law Firm Newswire) August 30, 2012 - A 27-year-old Houston woman died recently in a
                                   head-on collision.

She was in the western part of the state returning from a trip to the Grand Canyon, when a pickup truck struck
the vehicle she was riding in. The pickup truck was traveling the wrong way down a one-way street in Lubbock.
The driver of the car she was in at the time of the accident was critically injured.

The victim was not wearing a seatbelt and the impact from the accident launched her out of the vehicle. She was
a classically trained singer, with a Master’s degree in Music and Vocal Performance from Rice University. In
Houston, she performed in musical theater, operatic productions and concerts. Because of her participation,
talent and dedication, her loss is felt deeply by the music and arts community. An internationally recognized
opera star from Houston noted how much the young woman will be missed.

“These tragic situations are preventable when people follow safety laws,” said Waxahachie personal injury
                                   attorney John Hale.

It is not clear why a seatbelt was not being used at the time, but seatbelts clearly save many lives. Research
conducted by the U.S. Department of Transportation found that if all states had a 90 percent rate of seat belt
usage, over 1,600 lives could be saved, and about 22,000 injuries prevented each year. Over 147,000 lives were
saved by wearing seat belts from 1975 to 2001, according to the National Highway and Safety Administration.
