Candidates will be judged on academic achievement, campus and community
involvement, and speech content.
Applications must be approved by a dean, associate dean or advisor.
Candidates must attach a résumé and copy of the proposed speech (no longer
than 5 minutes in length).
Applications will be reviewed by a subset of the Commencement Committee.
One student speaker will be selected to represent all graduates per ceremony—
not one student speaker from each school graduating at the ceremony.
Student speakers will meet with a faculty member prior to commencement for
practice and “coaching.”
Student speakers sit on stage at commencement with faculty and administrators.
