LOADS USING FRONTIER BULLETS AND ALLIANT UNIQUE POWDER

                            FOR IPSC PRACTICAL PISTOL

                   By David Thompson ( www.practicalhandgun.com )

The Alliant Powder Unique has been redeveloped and is now a cleaner burning powder. Its
principal purpose is as an all round shotgun powder and has a secondary use as a handgun
reloading powder, where you can achieve good loads in all the popular pistol calibres.

For more than 125 years in the USA Alliant Powder has produced popular smokeless
powders and is part of ATK Security and Sporting. For more information you can visit
www.alliantpowder.com

The overall length of the loaded cartridge is critical to both function correctly through the
pistol and to maintain safe pressures. We used Frontier Complete Metal Jacket ( CMJ ),
Complete Metal Jacket Flat Point ( CMJ FP ) and Lead Round Nose ( LRN ) bullets. For
more information you can visit the Frontier Bullets web site at www.frontierbullets.co.za
The 9mm bullets had to be seated deeper a bit so as not to contact the start of the rifling.
The IPSC minimum Power Factor for Minor is 125 and for Major it is 170. The loading
data was put together for IPSC Practical Pistol Competition shooting, but can also be used
for any type of pistol shooting.

       Calibre Length ( mm )
9mm 125 CMJ & LRN 27.80
  .40 180 CMJ FP 29.50
  .45 200 CMJ FP 31.10
    .45 230 LRN 31.80
    .45 230 CMJ 32.10

REMEMBER

If you increase the overall length you will DECREASE the velocity and pressure.
If you decrease the overall length you will INCREASE the velocity and pressure.

The following 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP calibre loads were assembled using Alliant
Unique powder, using Frontier 9mm, .40 and .45 bullets. They were tested in 9mm CZ75
SP01, .40 STI and .45 STI pistols. The velocities were recorded using a CED Millennium
M2 Chronograph.
