departments to improve the safety of young people in the game

Welfare - We
Safeguarding & Welfare of Young People (under 18
years of age)
• Well over 50% of our participants are young people
• Implement the RFU “Policy & Procedures for the Welfare
of Young People in Rugby Union
• We offer support, guidance and training for CB welfare
personnel and ultimately all who work with young people
• Management of the Criminal Records Bureau systems
• Management of all reported child protection issues
• Co-ordination of “RFU Referral Management Group”
• Liaison with NSPCC – Child Protection in Sport Unit
• Ensure RFU reaches recognised National Standards
relating to the welfare of young people.

Safeguarding & Welfare of Young People (under 18

• Work with CB (County) Welfare Manager
• Implement the RFU policy guidelines
• Club Child Protection Policy & monitor effectiveness
• CRB Checks – records & monitoring
• Organising training of the club workforce
• Tour welfare management
• High profile main contact for individuals to report
concerns

CRB
• Over 40% of ‘reported cases’ (bad practice to
child abuse) – the accused does not hold a
current RFU CRB in last 3 years
• RFU Regulations – must apply for RFU CRB
within 8 weeks of taking up a post
• ‘regular supervisory contact’
• Incorrect forms are big problem – esp
incomplete 5-yr address history and section
X (CWO normally does this)
• Get a reference as well.
