Stapleford Out Of School Club
Programme of Activities – Spring/Summer 2012
Since the Easter break, we have been very busy and having lots of fun! We have
some exciting plans ahead for the rest of the half term.
On St George’s Day (23 April), the children designed their own swords and
shields: some were huge and some small. We also had a St George’s Day tea
party with cucumber sandwiches and a traditional Victoria sponge cake.
ANZAC Day is 25 April. This is a national day of remembrance in Australia and
New Zealand. A parent is kindly making us Anzac Biscuits for the children to try
and we will be telling a simple story behind this.
International week starts on 30 April , with a range of different foods to make
and to try at snack time, such as pretzels from Italy, baguettes from France,
prawn crackers from China. We’ll also be making flags and carnival masks in the
spirit of Venice, Rio and Notting Hill. We’ll be getting to grips with writing
Egyptian hieroglyphics and painting plates in vivid colours, Mexican-style.
We will be experimenting with printing with different objects including sponges,
corks and hands.
We have also included a Children’s Choice week from 14 May, when the
children can all choose what they would like to make and do!
During the Jubilee celebrations we will be attending the Street Party in Bar
Lane on Friday 1 June. We hope to have our own Jubilee Party too, making
crowns and dressing up as kings and queens!! We also have bunting to design
and decorate for the village celebrations.
We will be having a stall at the Village Fair on Stapleford Recreation Ground on
Saturday 2 June from 11am-4pm. All proceeds will go to Club funds and will
enable us to buy new games and equipment for the children.
