Weekend freeway restrictions in Phoenix area; closures scheduled along Loop 101 in
north Phoenix and Loop 202 in ChandlerPHOENIX — Projects to add new High
Occupancy Vehicle lanes will require stretches of the Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) in north
Phoenix and Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) in Chandler this weekend (Sept. 9-12). The
Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers allow extra travel time and
consider alternate routes if possible while the following restrictions are in place:
Eastbound Loop 101 closed between Seventh Avenue and State Route 51 in north
Phoenix from 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 11) for lane striping.
Both Interstate 17 ramps to eastbound Loop 101 closed. DETOUR: Eastbound Loop 101
traffic will detour along Beardsley frontage road to Cave Creek Road and then use Union
Northbound State Route 51 ramp to eastbound Loop 101 closed from 10 p.m. Friday to
11 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 10) for HOV lane project. DETOUR: Consider eastbound Union
Hills Drive to northbound Tatum Boulevard as alternate route.
Westbound Loop 101 narrowed to one lane between State Route 51 and 16th Street from
3 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 10) for bridge work. DETOUR: Allow extra travel time
and consider alternate routes, including Union Hills Drive.
Eastbound Loop 202 closed between 40th Street in Ahwatukee and Dobson Road in
Chandler from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 12) for HOV lane project paving
and sign installation. Closure will extend to Alma School Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5
Saturday. Interstate 10 and Loop 101 (Price Freeway) ramps to eastbound Loop 202
closed. DETOUR: Consider alternate routes, including eastbound Chandler Boulevard.
Northbound Loop 101 narrowed to one lane between Camelback Road and Glendale
Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 3 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 10) for HOV lane project.
Southbound Loop 101 also narrowed to one lane between Glendale Avenue and Bethany
Home Road from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday (Sept. 10). Allow extra travel time and
consider alternate routes.
Westbound Loop 101 narrowed to one lane between 75th Avenue and Bell Road from 10
p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 11) for rubberized asphalt paving.
Westbound Loop 101 exit ramp to Beardsley Road/Union Hills Drive and southbound
exit at Bell Road also closed. DETOUR: Plan on using westbound Loop 101 exit at 75th
Avenue while exits for Beardsley, Union Hills and Bell are closed.
Westbound Loop 202 on- and off-ramps at Price Road in Chandler closed from 9 p.m.
Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 12) for traffic signal installation.
Southbound Price Road closed at Frye Road for paving. DETOUR: Traffic can access
westbound Loop 202 via Chandler Village or McClintock drives.
Loop 303 closed in both directions between Waddell and Greenway roads in Surprise
from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 12) for utility work. DETOUR: Traffic can
use Reems Road.
The Loop 101 and Loop 202 HOV lane projects are on track for completion this fall and
require a number of restrictions to achieve that goal. For a list of other restrictions related
