BISHOP’S HULL COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL
“A village school providing a world of learning”
Dear Parents, December 2011
School Closure due to Extreme Weather Conditions
I wanted to update you on the procedures we have in place in the event of the school having to close
due to bad weather.
DECISION TAKEN TO CLOSE SCHOOL – PREVIOUS EVENING OR BEFORE SCHOOL
FIRST OF ALL, PLEASE CHECK THE SCHOOL WEBSITE
You can also listen to local radio stations which will have been informed as early as possible,
so please tune in or visit their website if you have any doubt:
Heart Radio - 102.6 FM
96.5 FM (Taunton area)
BBC Somerset - 95.5 FM
- 1566 MW
Where possible, we will liaise with other local schools to ensure a co-ordinated response.
We will have the school office ‘manned’ from 8.15 – 9.15 am by staff who live locally and
can walk in!
Again, if you have any doubt about closure, then please give the office a ring.
Any unaccompanied children who do make it into school (because you were unaware we had
closed) will be supervised and we will contact you to make arrangements for them getting
home safely as soon as possible.
DECISION TAKEN TO CLOSE DURING THE SCHOOL DAY:
We will ring parents to arrange for all children to go home safely and as quickly as possible.
This may mean that some children go home with parents of their friends until such time as
their own parents can get back to pick them up – therefore, please discuss this with your
own friendship groups to agree on this possibility in advance. In each case, however,
please be assured we will seek your permission on the day before any child is allowed off the
site with anyone other than their own parents.
If in doubt yourself about closure by deteriorating weather conditions then please phone the
NB: We cannot allow any child to leave school unless we are certain that they will be supervised on
arrival at home or a friend’s home.
As staff themselves will need to leave school as quickly as possible, I would appreciate it if you
please make sure that all contact numbers are up to date and that, as far as possible, you or someone
you name, or contactable every day. This will enable us to send all children home quickly, safely and
I hope this covers all the key areas but if you do have any questions or concerns then please contact
me at school.
