Thank you for your interest in our vacancy for a Headteacher. Our current outstanding
Headteacher will be retiring in April, 2013 after 14 years at Robert le Kyng, and we are looking
for someone very special with the vision and expertise to lead the school to the next stage in its
Robert le Kyng is a two-form entry primary school with a Special Resource Provision (SRP) for
physically disabled children. Around 30% of our children do not speak English as their first
language and around 30% have special educational needs and we take great pride in the
inclusive and caring ethos of the school. Our SRP pupils are integrated into classes and are
only withdrawn for specialist teaching, if appropriate, physiotherapy or other sessions involving
specialist intervention. We have a large number of non-teaching staff, currently 15 Special T.As
who provide individual support to our SRP pupils and 30 T.As, who, together with our
administrative staff and midday supervisors, all make a remarkable contribution to the school.
The school was graded “good” by Ofsted, when inspected in 2000, 2006, 2009 and 2011. At its
last inspection in September 2011, the school also received “outstanding” grades for some
aspects, including the effectiveness of care, guidance and support and the extent of pupils’
spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
A key feature of life at Robert le Kyng is the exemplary behaviour of the children and the calm,
purposeful atmosphere in the classrooms. All visitors to the school comment upon this, as did
the Ofsted inspectors during their last inspection. Our talented and highly motivated teams of
teachers and T.As have forged excellent relationships with their pupils and maintain discipline
with a light touch with the result that learning is maximised and lessons are fun. Our children
love coming to school!
Another particular characteristic of the school is our approach to physical and outdoor
education. Every child is given the opportunity to take part in a variety of sporting activities and
represent the school in tournaments and competitions, with the emphasis being upon good
sportsmanship, having fun and improving self-esteem.
I hope that the information in this letter and the other documents in the application pack will
encourage you to apply to be our new Headteacher, but I would strongly recommend that you
visit the school and see for yourself what life is like at Robert le Kyng. Please contact Jan
Vines, our School Business Manager, on 01793 523119, to arrange a visit. The closing date for
applications is 23 March. The interviews and other selection exercises will be held on 2 May.
We look forward to receiving your application.
