Parent Meeting Minutes
Opened meeting at 7:05 p.m.
Eagle project help:
Kevin Shabel presented his eagle project to parents. He has until February 10 to complete.
The project entails creating a new storage system for the sets for the drama department at
Parkway South. An invitation has been sent to the troop and work will take place on 1/24-25
from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Scouts were encouraged to bring work gloves.
BSA alternative requirements:
Glenn Smith reported that the Boy Scouts of America offer alternative requirements for kids who
may not be able to complete the usual requirements (for example, special needs). Currently,
the troop leadership is setting up this program with Josh and his family.
Glenn Smith talked about the need for this to begin. The first step would be to take some of
Todd’s responsibilities and start splitting off with others in the troop who are interested in
Overall, many more people are needed to fill leadership positions – there is always plenty to do
and more we could do.
Senior Patrol Leader report:
Justin Middleton reported that the “first years” completed their “drug talk” and most finished First
Aid merit badge. These merit badges and advancements were awarded at the Court of Honor
Elections for scout patrol leader positions will be held in February.
The next Basic Adult Leader Training will be held on April 25 (classroom) followed by the
outdoor camping training on May 1-3 at Beaumont. All parents interested are encouraged to
attend this session or the next one in the fall. Please see Todd Middleton for details. Steve
Madden completed the training in fall of 2008 and reported it was a very positive and fun
Troop committee training is scheduled for March 12. All interested should contact Todd
Middleton for details.
Steve Madden offered to organize all positions and define each. This doesn’t exist in any
centralized place currently for Troop 750.
University of Scouting: January 24 at Fox High School.
Available dates for our scouts to assist would be February 21 and April 3. More information to
follow but group agreed April 3 might be best.
Rob Telker has contacted the nursery and told them we are interested in selling plants/flowers
again this spring.
Parent Meeting Minutes – 1/13/09
“Friends of Scouting”:
Awards have changed this year for donations. If we have 40% participation of families the troop
will receive all rank advancement patches for free for one year. Representatives from this group
attended and presented at the Court of Honor on 1/22.
Permission slips will be available soon It will be $30 a scout and scouts can invite a friend
outside of scouts. The date is 2/27 at the Edge in Belleville from midnight to 4:00 am.
Philmont trip in 2010:
More information to follow and available on website. Currently, the dates we have been
assigned put us on the trail for the final day on the day before classes start in Parkway. Todd
thinks we can move these to earlier in the summer.
2009 may do one closer to home. Research is underway.
