Ontology Specialist Internship Embark on an Adventure with Mayo Clinic Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, has an exciting internship opportunity for students studying in the field of library and information science, health informatics, or semantic Web development to gain experience with ontology development. The selected intern will gain experience in the emerging field of ontology development. They will participate in the implementation of the Mayoclinic.com consumer health ontology by working on projects related to the enhancement of our current controlled vocabulary. The intern will supplement staffing resources for completing ontology development efforts for the 2.0 redesign and other projects within the department. The intern will report to the MayoClinic.com ontology manager who coordinates training, supervision and evaluation of the intern’s work performance. Internship duties are largely project-based, and may include the following: • Documentation of metadata strategies • Work with managing editors to complete content audits to guide metadata changes • Assist in implementing metadata changes To qualify for this internship, individuals must be enrolled in a masters or graduate degree program from a college or university. Typically, this internship would occur after the student has taken most of the courses required by the graduate degree program.
