Setting the scene…
Psychology became very poignant after the Second World War
with a number of war veterans returning home suffering from
Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, (PTSS) not that it had been
diagnosed as that at that time.
There was a significant increase in the number of patients being
referred to psychologists, and counsellors so therefore an
increase in the number of persons needing qualifications in
these roles.
Basically this was classified as negative based psychology,
patients’ were “broken” and were seeing or having counselling
to be mended or “fixed” so they could get back into mainstream
lifestyles.

As we see it now…
Counseling is the art of helping basically healthy people
work through the normal developmental issues, decisions,
problems and even crises that come to all of us in life.
Some examples: choosing a career, losing a parent,
divorce.
Sometimes it just helps to have somebody to talk to,
somebody whose compassion we trust and whose wisdom
we respect.
