A Safe Behavior 4 the Right Reasons
Presented by: Dale Lesinski, Dival Presentations
A basic understanding of human behavior and why we do the things we do is the foundation of how to motivate
employees in avoiding accidents and to value safety. This program addresses the upstream struggle that safety
professionals face trying to get employees to adopt and value safe behavior. Dale offers a fresh approach and his
ability to make his message personal for every employee is the key to his effectiveness. Dale’s ability to incorporate
audience participation, fun, humor, real world situations that everyone can relate to and the ability to uncover each
and every attendee’s personal motivation for safety has made this session a favorite at National and Regional
Conferences, and major corporations from coast to coast.

1 - Construction: Scaffolding Safety in Construction
Frame, mast-climbing, and mobile scaffolds – including boom lifts – are common to most construction jobsites.
However, the hazards inherent to this equipment also make them a common source of catastrophic injury and OSHA
fines. This seminar will focus on construction scaffold safety, primarily focusing on the three general scaffold types
mentioned above. The information presented will help attendees identify, evaluate and control many of the hazards
faced during scaffold erection, use, and dismantling.

2 - Marcellus Shale (Description Pending)

3 - A Team Approach to Managing Physical Stress in the Work Place
The Hetrick Center will discuss their team approach to managing physical stress and safety in the workplace. Their
three person panel will include a Chiropractor, Physical Therapist, and a Registered Dietitian. Discussions will
include, but are not limited to: appropriate biomechanics (proper lifting and ergonomics), stretching and
strengthening to prevent injury, optimal hydration and dietary requirements, as well as various treatment options in
      the event of an injury.

4 - It Only takes One Second, to Change Your Life, For a Lifetime
The U.S. Department of Labor Speaker will discuss the long-reaching impact that a serious accident and traumatic
injury can have on an individual, family, career, etc. The presenter is the survivor of a traumatic injury (amputee) and
will relate first-hand experience on dealing with rehabilitation and recovery, and the ongoing challenges faced in
everyday life following a traumatic injury.

5 - Labor/Management: How to Address Safety Issues and Concerns with Employees, and come to an
      Agreeable Solution
This workshop will describe our unique means for addressing Safety concerns within our Plant. The presentation will
review many safety programs, including how Safety Issues and concerns are addressed with all of our employees.
One of our successes has been how we can meet and speak with all affected employees until an Issue has been
described, discussed, solutions evaluated and the problem has been resolved. We strive to have everyone satisfied
with the final outcome. Come and learn.

6 - Industrial Hygiene Hazards: Lead, Hexavalent Chromium and Silica
This is a general industrial hygiene workshop where three common air contaminants will be presented: Lead,
Hexavalent Chromium, and Silica. The workshop explains what the substances are, how they affect the human body,
what workers are getting sick or killed, the industries and jobs most likely to encounter the substances, how workers
can get involved, what employers can do and finally a look at what OSHA is doing to prevent these illnesses.

6 - Ergonomics and Fitness – Practical Applications for Safety and Health for You
We all know that good ergonomics are essential to health and safety. We also all know that functional fitness is
essential to a healthy lifestyle. So how can we apply the principles of ergonomics and fitness to improve ourselves
and the safety of our co-workers both in the workplace and at home? At this workshop we will review and apply key
principles from both ergonomics AND fitness. We will share the science behind the applications and participate in
methods to demonstrate and apply the concepts. After participating in this seminar you will be better able to keep
yourself ergonomically sound, exercise more safely and efficiently, and share these applications at your workplace to

The Journey to Safety Excellence Presented by Kent McElhattan, Chairman of the National Safety Council
Safety excellence is not a destination but an on-going journey. The National Safety Council developed the Journey to
Safety Excellence ® philosophy as a guiding principal for continuous improvement. Safety leaders know that safety
excellence is not an endpoint but a continuous quest to zero. Based on a century of experience and by working with
the world’s leading safety organizations, NSC has identified four key pillars of a successful safety journey –
leadership and employee engagement, safety management systems, risk reduction and performance management.

1 - OSHA Has Adopted GHS – What You Need to Do Now!
Changes to OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom), as part of the alignment with the Globally
Harmonized System (GHS), impact more than 43 million workers in more than 5 million U.S. workplaces, primarily in
the areas of safety data sheet formatting, chemical classification, labeling elements and worker training. With the new
GHS alignment changes in place and HazCom violations continuously landing on OSHA’s top 10 most frequently
cited standards list, compliance is crucial. Find out what these changes mean for you and how you can prepare now
to meet compliance with HazCom 2012.

    2 - Free Government Resources
        Free Government Resources:
We will hear from three, free government resources: OSHA, Consultation and the Pennsylvania Bureau of Workers’
        Compensation in this session.
        - OSHA has numerous and various occupational safety and health resources, including safety and health
publications and PowerPoint presentations all free for use. This presentation will be a brief review of OSHA’s
web site and the means to access this multitude of free downloadable information.
        - The PA OSHA Consultation Program will discuss their program objectives, services provided, and employer
obligations under this federally mandated program.
        - Discover the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation’s new no-fee safety training resource, PATHS. Find out how this
comprehensive website allows employers to view and access a variety of safety videos, PowerPoint, safety
posters, toolbox talks, and much more. Learn how PATHS can enhance your safety program.

3 - What’s Missing from Your Electrical Safety Program?
This presentation will focus on items missing from companies’ Electrical Safety Programs. For
example, who is allowed to reset circuit breakers? What training must occur? Also, these Electrical
Safety Programs typically focus on electrical workers but most electrical contacts are from those
individuals who are not electrically qualified (carpenters, mechanics, etc.). How do we cover these
employees? Lastly, are there any significant changes to the NFPA 70E 2012 edition?

4 - LEED Overview and Response to Safety Issues
The program will provide an overview of the US Green Building Council, Green Building, and LEED (or “Leadership in
Energy and Environmental Design”) Certification. General case studies will be presented as examples. The
presentation will also address concerns about worker safety in LEED projects and other aspects of construction
        addressed by the certification process.

Tuesday, October 30 – Agenda (contd.)
5 - We Never Thought It Could Happen to Us
Have you ever said that? Who has not! Or even worse… have you ever had the same injury or accident/loss occur
a second time? The speakers will draw from their combined 65 years of safety experience in this session to review a
number of industry and construction related incidents …and many lessons learned. PLUS… we will share some
unique ideas on how to avoid repeat incidents by better communicating with our employees what happened and why,
and some creative ways to share lessons learned. Additionally, we will discuss ideas to combine Ownership,
Management (and even our Safety Committees) to improve our safety culture and encourage “personal ownership of
         safety solutions.”
