                             2009-2010 GA’s Pre-K New Project Director Training

This two-day training is MANDATORY for new Project Directors and new Site Directors. All new Pre-K Project Directors
and new Pre-K Site Directors MUST attend both days of training consecutively. This training is for all newly-funded
programs and for new directors of continuation programs. This training provides the information needed to successfully
operate a Georgia's Pre-K program. Training topics include PQA, PANDA, Georgia's Pre-K Child Assessment Program,
classroom management, rosters, reconciliation of funds, record keeping and training requirements

                           2009-2010 GA’s Pre-K Returning Project Director Training

Day 1 training is MANDATORY for all returning Project Directors. The training consists of an opening session with
keynote speakers who will focus on celebrating serving our millionth child in Georgia’s Pre-K this year. The opening
session will be followed by breakout sessions. If a Project Director plans to attend Pre-K Site Director Training as well,
please register for both sessions. If you serve as both the Pre-K Project and Site Director, you will need to attend
Returning Site Director Training as well.

2009-2010 GA’s Pre-K Returning Site Director Training for Private Centers & School Systems

For private child care centers, school system personnel, military bases, technical schools and colleges, training will
consist of breakout sessions followed by a general closing session. This training is designed to assist site directors with
supporting teachers in the classroom and is MANDATORY for all returning Site Directors. It is MANDATORY for local
school system personnel at the site director level to select one of the following training options: 1) Register for and attend
Returning Site Director Training. 2) Designate an alternate attendee to attend the above training. It will be the designee's
responsibility to ensure that the information from training is presented to the Site Director. The designee must be a person
housed on-site and in a supervisory role that deals directly with Pre-K and must be approved by the Pre-K consultant prior
to registering for training. Examples of persons that could attend in lieu of the site director might be an Assistant Principal,
Curriculum Coordinator, Instructional Coordinator, etc. This designee cannot be a teacher, Resource Coordinator, or
someone in a non-supervisory role. The designee cannot be a Project Director that is not housed on-site at the particular
school. 3) Attend a locally coordinated training conducted by your Pre-K Consultant. If you have used this training option
within the last 2 years, your Pre-K Consultant will ask you to choose one of the alternate options listed above. Local
training offered by the consultant is dependent on quality PQA scores and availability of consultant and must be approved
by a Pre-K Program Manager.

This one-day training is MANDATORY for NEW Resource Coordinators. This training will focus on improved processes
and strengthening the RC Program in Georgia. NOTE: New Resource Coordinators must also attend Pre-K Resource
Coordinator Institute for NEW RCs – Part II

This MANDATORY training for NEW Resource Coordinators is offered in a two-day session. New Resource Coordinator
training will consist of a general session followed by breakout sessions that are based on strategies from “Strengthening
Families.” Resource Coordinators who successfully complete this training are eligible to receive 1 PLU. NOTE: New
Resource Coordinators must also attend Pre-K Resource Coordinator Institute for NEW RCs – Part I

Topics on Days 1 and 2 of New Lead Teacher Institute will include six (6) content sessions in the areas of math, science,
reading, writing, classroom management and large group and small group activities. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND
THAT YOU ALLOW 6-8 WEEKS BETWEEN THIS TRAINING AND ATTENDANCE AT DAY 3. Georgia Professional

                                             Day 4 Seminar

On Day 4 of the New Lead Teacher Institute, teachers will share 'artifacts' they have created throughout the year to
demonstrate their knowledge of the PQA, appropriate classroom activities in all learning domains, and child assessment.
NOTE: TEACHERS WHO ARRIVE AT DAY 4 TRAINING WITHOUT THEIR REQUIRED 'ARTIFACTS' WILL BE SENT
HOME AND ASKED TO RESCHEDULE THEIR DAY 4 TRAINING FOR A LATER DATE. CENTERS WILL BE CHARGED
A $50 'NO SHOW' FEE FOR THIS OCCURRENCE. Three Professional Learning Units (PLUs) are awarded upon

This two-day training is MANDATORY for assistant teachers who have never worked as an assistant teacher in a
Georgia’s Pre-K Program. It is mandatory for new assistant teachers to attend both days of training consecutively. Topics
for this two-day training include: Georgia’s Pre-K Content Standards, adult-child interactions and information about
Georgia’s Pre-K Child Assessment. NOTE: If you were a new assistant teacher during the 2008-2009 school year and did
not complete the New Assistant Teacher Institute, YOU MUST REGISTER FOR AND COMPLETE THE NEW
ASSISTANT TEACHER INSTITUTE THIS SCHOOL YEAR. One Professional Learning Unit (PLU) is awarded upon

            Planning Meaningful Instruction - FOR RETURNING LEAD TEACHERS ONLY

Returning from last year, this module guides lead teachers in creating exciting plans for instruction that link curriculum and
assessment. Teachers will develop topics that combine children's interests with curriculum objectives, learn how to use
assessment data to plan purposeful instruction, and explore strategies for effectively managing small groups. One

last year, this module examines a variety of factors that impact the behavior of young children. We will focus on how to
incorporate brain-compatible learning techniques from the Conscious Discipline behavioral management model and
explore strategies for the prevention of negative behaviors, as well as intervention strategies. One Professional Learning

Returning from last year, this training focuses on developing and increasing children's complex thinking skills through
integrated activities that are fun and engaging for children and inspiring for teachers. We will investigate an approach to
learning that uses children's literature as a springboard to move from the concrete and familiar to the abstract and
challenging. We will explore strategies for applying this four-step approach to a variety of classroom activities and learning

Returning from last year, this training focuses on strategies, information and resources for teaching English language
learners (ELLs). Participants explore child-centered methods that address classroom management, the steps of English
language acquisition, and content area activities that benefit both ELLs and English speakers. This workshop helps
teachers balance a respect for culture and diversity with ways to equip children for successful learning in an English-
