Web Site: Design
Currently, there are three different audiences for this web site – parents, colleagues,
and the CEP 811 instructor. As the site matures, I envision it solely supporting my
kindergarten class, with additional pages being offered for parent and colleague
perusal, adding students as an audience, while deleting the Masters level coursework.
The majority of information on the web site provides parent information. While I shared
with parents my personal and professional background the first day of school, and in a
brochure available at Open House, there were some families unable to attend, and I
suspect many didn’t read the brochure. In making this information available on the web
site, I’m communicating about my background, and also intend to share goals for our
The remainder of the web site consolidates, in one spot, information previously provided
to our parents. For example, the kindergarten calendar, lunch menus, and newsletters
were previously sent home. The web site will provide easy access to this historical data
when parents need this information in the future, and they will, as many continually
misplace it. I’m providing “one-stop shopping.”
I currently do not share our new popcorn words with parents as we learn them. The web
site will provide a means to do so, and also direct parents to resources to make their
own for visual display at home.
I do a lot of searching online for information and ideas to incorporate into my classroom,
and my teaching. For example, I found the idea of popcorn words, and how to display
them, online on another teacher’s web site. In sharing some of my ideas and
information, and making it available to colleagues, perhaps someone else will find it as
beneficial to them as I did when searching for “popcorn words!”
CEP 811 Instructor
There will be a link to a page for all CEP 811 assignments. The assignments will be
centrally located, and readily available. This is a link I consider temporary, and not one I
would include when the site is eventually hosted on my district’s server.
Below is the initial site map for the web site. The majority of the third-level pages will be
links from second-level pages, which I create. These links will open in new windows.
After removing the Masters level work in the future, I would return the StAIR’s I created
to the site. These would be beneficial to colleagues and students (another future
In the future, I would also like to add a page that provides our monthly read-aloud
sheets, and a “Projects” page that includes pictures of individual student work. We
currently display projects in our kindergarten hallway. I would like to provide a
permanent record for myself, parents (current and future), and project ideas for
colleagues, by taking pictures and showcasing student work on the web site.
