(Norm Roberts) Review & Meeting began @ 6:45 p.m. Approval of Motion to approve minutes by Norm; seconded by Roxanne Minutes Thank you to Nikki for chairing this evening (Everyone) Special welcome to our trustee, Scott McLauchlan Student Council No presentation this evening & LINK CREW Principal’s Report Music Trip NYC (Tim Lariviere) This year’s trip takes place in two weeks 2013 trip will be to New Orleans and Nashville Music program receives great support; research indicates a link between schools with strong music programs and student academic success Vimy Ridge Trip Students presently in Europe Latest report is that student behavior is remarkable Cardinal Ambrozic students are with Cardinal Leger CSS Europe 2013 2 trips proposed one for Social Justice to Dominican Republic in January 2013 (will partner with St. Marguerite d’Youville) second trip, Moderns/Social Sciences, to France and Spain School Landscaping landscaping design to be simplified cost comes from school’s capital budget Curtains installed in lecture hall and on stage in cafeteria Grade 10 OSSLT Grade 9 wrote their mock test while Grade 10s wrote the actual test Over the past several months, teachers have been working diligently addressing student literacy needs Kudos to staff for their commitment and dedication Athletics All spring sports underway Dance Performance Competitions taking place this month Large proportion of our dancers are male – awesome! Registration Registration from public schools is complete People were lining up at 4:30 a.m. on registration day Everyone was processed before 9:00 a.m. Waiting list established New Teachers Mr. Lariviere is in the process of hiring of 12 new teachers Teachers surplus to other Families need to be placed CaraCardinal Multi-cultural event Sharing of Information Permissible for schools to share information between boards, but not mandatory Very helpful in programming for students who have unique needs Transitions Elementary and secondary staff to work together in each other’s classrooms as part of transition process to gain insight into student learning in each panel Settlement Worker/New Families Settlement worker is provided with space at Cardinal Ambrozic in order that newcomers can visit the school and ask questions about DPCDSB Provides an opportunity during the day for these parents Opportunity for principal, superintendent, etc. to meet with these families Guidance for such things as getting homework help, etc. for their children Fraser Report Cardinal Ambrozic scored 7.2/10; 10th out of 25 schools in DPCDSB St. Edmund Campion scored 7.5/10; highest in Brampton St. Michael’s Choir School was 1st in province; Holy Name of Mary was 6th in province; St. Aloysius Gonzaga was 25th in the province Schools are reviewed over a 5a period Summer School Applications have been distributed CCCSC Saturday April 14th @ St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Mississauga Parents’ Night In Friday May 11th from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Speakers include Orlando Bowen, Tim Lariviere (21st Learning), Garth Buckley and Diana Jones (mental health), Lydia Petroni (health/nutrition), Norm Roberts (parent engagement) $1000 innovation grant to pay for outside speakers (in-house staff will not be paid from this fund) B.R.A.V.E. Team May is Mental Health Month (Diana Jones) Breaking down the stigma through education Working with community partners Underground Railroad Trip 2 day trip to Detroit-Windsor Mr. Leskun will be organizing with Ms. Jones Louise Rousseau WAVE conference in May Anti-violence Dr. Simone’s Canadian Food for Children Students helped at the warehouse Salt wall for medical purposes Day of Pink for Anti-Bullying Cardinal Ambrozic believes this is a long-term campaign On-going; awareness is highlighted many times throughout the year Chair’s Report No report (Anna Aidoo) Trustee’s Report Welcome to our trustee, Scott McLauchlan! (Scott McLauchlan) Mr. McLauchlan shared a copy of Trustee’s report DPCDSB is one of 5 boards in Ontario which is not declining in enrolment Two new schools opening in 2013 in north Brampton Ministry funding is becoming more limited Ramification is that there will be fewer new schools DPCDSB had a balanced budget Has met contractual obligations through cuts to transportation, student textbooks, maintenance Electronic textbooks could provide huge cost savings over hard copies Important that one keeps the big picture in mind when reflecting on these budgetary decisions EQAO statistics for our board are significantly higher than the Peel board Mathematics in the Secondary level has seen great growth over the past few years 2012-2013 Special High Skills Majors Programs @ Cardinal Ambrozic: Social Justice and Sports Approximately 2/3 of our secondary schools have SHSM programs SHSM are extremely successful at meeting the needs of students with special skills 4000 credits offered…4000 credits earned! No students have failed these SHSM courses in our board Our Story, Our Tradition, Our Journey is a historical account of our schools and parishes Discussion over hazardous material concerns at Georges Vanier Bill 13 Progressive Discipline: Bullying and Open Arms Club-Respecting Differences Our group has been established to support students who have been bullied or discriminated against Club can be facilitated by a chaplain or guidance counselor or vice-principal At the elementary school, the facilitator would be the principal Many confidentiality concerns about this sensitive issue We are in Year Two of Full Day Kindergarten (current proposal is that in 3 years all schools have it); unlikely that FDK will be retracted in the new provincial budget JK/SK FDK class sizes have increased to 28 student on average Contracts for all union groups (10 groups in the board, including teachers) expire August 31st, 2012 negotiations are underway Drummond Report will have an impact on how these negotiations play out Mr. McLauchlan offered congratulations to the staff and students of Cardinal Ambrozic for their excellent efforts and achievement Mr. McLauchlan thanked the CSAC members for their time and efforts Treasurer’s Report: No change (Carol Ruggeiro) Next Meeting Date Motion to adjourn meeting @ 8:27 p.m. Motion to approve by Roxanne; seconded by Carol Tuesday May 1st, 2012 NEXT MEETING: Tuesday May 1st, 2012 6:30-8:30 p.m.
