Physical Education Procedures 9th and 10th grade
Students must be in locker room when bell rings. Students are allotted a maximum of five minutes to change and
will be marked late if he/she exceed the time limit.
Three lateness’s of any kind will count as one absence (5pt. deduction).
If a student misses half of the class or more then he/she will not receive credit for the day.
Students are allotted one absence for an in school event per quarter (i.e. music lesson, guidance meeting, field trip,
or college visit). A pass must be brought to the teacher prior to class.
Students that are absent from school will lose 5 points. He/she will have 2 weeks from the date of infraction to
makeup the 5 points. If a doctors note is presented there will be no loss of credit.
A cut will result in a full loss of credit for the day and a school detention. Class may not be made up and student
will lose 10 points.
Students are required to dress in appropriate attire consisting of a t-shirt or sweatshirt, athletic shorts or sweats,
and athletic sneakers. GC Physical Education Dept t-shirts can be purchased at school store. THERE MUST BE
A CHANGE OF CLOTHES!
Attire should be in good taste with no offensive or inappropriate sayings or symbols.
Hats may not be worn in the gym or fitness center.
Any student that is unprepared will lose full credit for the day (10 points). He/she will have 2 weeks from the
date of infraction to makeup 5 points. A written assignment that must be completed during the period will be
given to them by the teacher. If the student chooses not to complete the written assignment a school detention
Students with documented medical problems must bring a physician’s note explaining the particular medical
Medical notes should be handed to the school nurse prior to class (not during class time).
The student must report to all physical education classes. Any missed classes will be considered a cut.
Students with medical alternatives may not participate in sports, cheerleading or kickline.
Students who are on medical will need to complete assigned paperwork in order to receive credit. Paperwork will
be given to students by their assigned teacher.
LOCKER ROOM PROCEDURES
Students are not permitted in the locker rooms during the school day except when changing for their Physical

Make-ups are held everyday in the fitness center from 2:45pm - 4:00pm.
Additional makeups will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays on the track at 2:45p.m.
Students must sign in order to receive credit.
On the track students must either JOG ALL FOUR laps or walk/jog SIX laps.
In the fitness center students must utilize a piece of cardio equipment for 30 MINUTES.

Students must pass each quarter in Physical Education to be awarded credit.
Students will receive a grade for each class based on a rubric representing the NYS Learning Standards.
ALL POINT DEDUCTIONS ARE OFF FINAL GRADE.
Grading Implementation Quarterly Points
Personal Students must demonstrate positive displays of social and 20

Participation Students are expected to participate with maximum effort to 20

outstanding effort on a consistent basis he/she can earn extra
points. Loss of credit would include lack of effort during warm
up, lesson focus and lesson activity. If the student
continuously must to be told to participate he/she will lose
credit for the class.
Preparation Students are required to be on time to class wearing required 20
and PE clothes. (Garden City Physical Education shirt, athletic
Attendance shorts and proper athletic footware) If a student attends
without the required PE attire a warning will be issued with
possible loss of credit. If the student is unprepared and
cannot participate they must make up the class.
Content Students will be assessed on their cognitive knowledge 20
Knowledge through the use of tests/quizzes, presentations, research etc.
Additionally, students will also be evaluated on their skill

Portfolios that are not handed in on time will result in the loss
