ELP/IB Parent Meetings
9/23/ 08: IB Exam Registration Meeting Grades 11, 12
This meeting is for Grade 11 and 12 students and parents. The purpose is to discuss the
May 2009 Examination Session and to ensure the proper registration of all IB Anticipated
(Grade 11) and Diploma (12 Grade) candidates. Regarding fees please refer to letter
mailed to your home by District IB Coordinator Mary Austin this summer. Payment will
be collected at this meeting or can be brought to school by your student no later than

Time and classroom TBA
Join in the first ever IB global lesson! The IB community spans 128 countries, including
over 2,300 schools and over 600,000 students. As the IB celebrates its 40th anniversary,
IB World Schools all over the world are invited to come together in the first IB global
lesson on one of the key challenges facing the world—global poverty. The TOK class
will welcome parents to register and participate in the class discussion. Registration
details will follow.
10/21/08: The IB Hexagon & College Application Process Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
The purpose of this meeting is two-fold: to review the IB Hexagon and the requirements
for obtaining the IB Diploma, and to present information about the College application
11/12/08 (Snow date 11/18): IB Expo Prospective students
6:30pm, Auditorium and Cafeteria
During the Public Information Night, AHS Administration and IB Faculty will provide
information for prospective ELP applicants and families. We invite current families to
offer their perspective. Please advise the IB Office if you are able to be present at this
12/18/08: Alumni Day Alumni
Continuing the tradition started last year, we invite the Class of 2008 to receive their
Diplomas and Certificates. All Alumni are invited to help celebrate the Class of 2008
and participate in this second AHS IB Alumni reunion. Volunteers are invited to assist in
this event. Last year we started the tradition for parents of Seniors to help host the
celebration, but we welcome all volunteers.
1/29/09 (Snow 2/4/09): Registration Night Rising 9th Graders
6:30pm, Auditorium and Cafeteria
The purpose of this meeting is formally welcome all new ELP/IB students to the
Annapolis High School community and to register them for their Grade 9 courses.
Volunteer parents are welcome to assist.
2/18/09: ELP/IB Course Selection Meeting Grades 9, 10, 11
Students will be selecting courses for the next academic year. Members of the Guidance
Department will visit all ELP/IB classes to initiate the process. The purpose of this
meeting is to present information about the course selection process to parents.
3/11/08: Extended Essay Presentation Grade 11
6:30pm, Media Center
Grade 11 students undertake the process of writing their Extended Essay. The purpose of
this meeting is to provide families with the concept of the Extended Essay process, the
role of the student, the role of the supervisor, and the expectations for student progress
leading to the completion of this requirement. Even though the meeting is offered for
Grade 11 families, younger students and their families are invited to attend as well in
order to familiarize themselves with this process.
4/2/09: CAS Introduction Grade 10
Students in Grade 10 can begin working on the CAS component of the IB Diploma
requirement during the summer following their Sophomore year. This meeting is
primarily for 10th grade families. However, we welcome all members of the ELP/IB
family as well. The aim of the meeting is to introduce the concept and purpose of CAS,
explain the paperwork process, and discuss possible activities appropriate for CAS. Mrs.
Tucker is the CAS Coordinator and will be presenting.
4/30/09: End of year celebration All Grades
This event is in the planning stage. Families are invited to contact the IB Office if
interested in assisting with organizing the celebration
Please note that even though some presentations have been designated for specific grade
levels, we welcome students and families of the ELP/IB community to all events!
