                               Class Activities

1. Obtain a copy of “The Toddler’s Potty Book” by Alida Allison
(www.amazon.com). Read the book to the class and discuss how choosing good
children’s books can help parents teach their toddlers. Have students check out
the website (www.parents-choice.org), which gives tips on how to choose good
children’s books which support parents in raising their children.

2. Obtain a copy of “10 Minutes Until Bedtime” by Peggy Rathman
(www.amazon.com). Read the book to the class and discuss how choosing good
children’s books can help parents in reading with their infants. Have students
check out the website (www.parents-choice.org), which gives tips on how to
choose good children’s books which support parents in raising their children.

3. Discuss the role of play and how it enhances infants and toddlers motor,
cognitive, emotional, and social development. Visit the website
(www.toddlertoddler.com), which has a list of many different activities that can
be used to enhance play with infants and toddlers. Play one of the games in your
class. One fun game for toddlers is the Cereal Box Slide. Take two empty cereal
boxes and tape the openings closed. Then cut out a big hole on one side that
would be big enough to put the bottom half of a stuffed animal inside. Bring the
boxes and two stuffed animals to class. Break the students into groups and have
them race the cereal boxes with stuffed animals inside pushing them around the
room. Have students discuss their experience and their insights about the
   importance of play.
