Name: _________________________

Your Mission

You have been invited by one of your former elementary school teachers to
prepare a presentation for their grade 8 class on one topic related to space
science (astronomy). This invitation will require you to become a specialist in a
space science topic. You will use PowerPoint to complete this task. Your
presentation and the research process will be evaluated according to the rubric
included in this package.

Step 1 - Prepare for Research

a) write your topic here _______________________________

b) look up your topic in either the print or electronic version of World Book Encyclopaedia

c) carefully read the World Book Encyclopaedia article on your topic

d) use the article to decide on 4 interesting subtopics to your topic. You will use these
   subtopics to organize your presentation.

      Write the subtopics here: 1

                                       2

                                       3

Enter the subtopics in your Information Organizer

e) Have your teacher approve both the topic and the subtopics.

      Teacher’s approval initial: _______

f) Keeping your topic and subtopics in mind brainstorm 8 possible keywords that might help
you search for information on your topic. Remember key words can be more general than
your topic or more specific. Enter them on the keyword web below:

Step 2 - Access Resources and Step 3 Process the Information

A ) Encyclopaedia Articles

Locate Encyclopaedia Articles ( locate 1 – 2 ) on your topic:

Encyclopaedia Britannica (print and online), Worldbook (both print and online), and the
Canadian Encyclopaedia (print and network CD-ROM).
 use the Information Organizer to summarize the information you find for each of your
subtopics → all notes, article printouts and photocopies must be kept in your research
      portfolio.
* You must put all resource information in your List of Resources Sheet

     subtopics

* You must put all resource information in your List of Resources Sheet

Step 4 - Transfer the Learning: Create your PowerPoint presentation

Your final product will be a PowerPoint Presentation that will be directed to a grade 8 class.

Remember you are creating this presentation for Grade 8 students.
