Incoming Freshmen Information Night – Thursday, April 16, 5:30pm
Make plans now to join us for a festive evening when we have the opportunity to show off the Best of Laguna
Hills High School. Campus will be bursting with activities for students, parents, guests, incoming Freshmen
families, visitors, faculty and staff, and many campus clubs and organizations who will be all be displaying prime
Hawk Pride. Incoming Freshmen and their families are encouraged to come at 5:30pm to get full exposure
to all LHHS has to offer. Or even current students who are just not sure of where they fit in, or want to know
more about the various clubs, organizations, elective course options, etc., will have a chance to SEE it all! So,
please consider this your personal invitation to Get To Know YOUR LHHS!

offerings at LHHS, please come and see all that Laguna Hills High School has to offer – there’s something for
every student and every parent!

Principal’s RoundTable
The next PRT, The Evening Edition, will be held Tuesday evening, April 14, 7:00pm. Please enjoy Spring
Break and come back ready for the home stretch. One of the “hot topics” we discussed last month was the
effective “marketing” of LHHS and what we as parents can do to spread the word about the great things that are
going on at our school. We will continue some of this dialogue and also make plans for some parent
participation opportunities at the Incoming Freshmen event which will be held immediately before Open House.

LHHS Scholarship Deadline This Friday April 17, 2009 .
This Friday is the deadline for three different scholarships sponsored by the LHHS PTSA:
1) Senior of the Year Scholarship – PTSA membership, well rounded student, two teacher signatures and
essay on “How I Made a Difference at LHHS and in my Community”;
2) Carolyn Bohmholdt Scholarship – service to LHHS and community, PTSA membership; and 3) Working
Student Scholarship – GPA 2.5+, employed 15+hours senior year, essay on “What I Want to do With My
Future”, PTSA membership. All applications can be picked up in the CareerCenter. All three require PTSA
membership and if you are not already a member, you can join by clicking the link here:

people, and in this case, would be one parent and the Senior student. Consider the odds for winning this

We know it will be tough to get back to business after a relaxing break, but we hope you’ll join us for a very

Athletic Boosters Executive Board
It’s that time of year and we are looking to fill six of the existing Executive Board positions - President, Treasurer,
 VP Fundraising, Secretary, Communications, and Team Rep Coordinator. In addition, we will be adding a new
 position of Programs Coordinator, who will work closely with VP Fundraising. The new Programs Coordinator
 would oversee our three new revenue-generators - Scrip Success, Lifetime Membership and Banner Sales. Our
 current VP Membership, Cindy Villaume will continue in that position. There could not be a better time to step
 into a leadership role at LHHS Boosters as we have several new, solid, revenue-generating programs already

Grad Night
Grad Night, and its many fun planned activities, is fast approaching. For parents: if you would like your Senior’s
childhood pictures in the "Memory Lane" Gallery, please send in group or individual shots of your Seniors by

The next meeting of the Grad Night Committee will be Wednesday, April 22 when they move on campus to

Athletic Boosters Calendar 2009-2010 – Attention Junior Athletes and their Parents!
The Athletic Boosters Senior Athlete Calendar is already under construction. Details about how your Junior
Athlete can participate and all necessary forms can be downloaded from the LHHS Athletic Booster webpage
http://www.hawkathleticboosters.org/Photocalendar.php, including the Athletic Boosters membership. All
participants must be Booster members and the cost of membership is $45. Also available are advertising spots
and personal messages that parents can post on the Calendar. Deadline for all form entries is May 1, 2009. If
you are interested in helping with next year’s Calendar, contact Marcy Mills at marcymills@cox.net and or plan
to come to the next general Athletic Booster meeting, Monday, April 20 7:00pm in the Library.

Spring Athletic Boosters Event
Planning for the Athletic Boosters Casino Night Event i s also well underway and if you’d like to get involved,
please contact Robin Olson, at robinsdesk@olson.occoxmail.com. We will NOT be doing silent auction baskets
this year. Instead, we are collecting money from every sport to put towards fabulous prizes. This very FUN
evening will be held Friday, May 22 , at the Laguna HillsCommunity Center. Working on these kinds of events
is always a great way to get to know other Hawk parents and the event benefits ALL LHHS sports, so get
involved and GO HAWKS!

Parent Education Night
LHHS PTSA will be hosting a Parent Education Night on Wednesday, April 29 , at 7:00pm in the LHHS MPR.
This will be a very informative presentation by our special guests, LHHS SRO, Deputy Ray Botta and LH Chief
of Police, Steve Doan. And because these are topics that ALL PARENTS, should be aware of, we are inviting
all Laguna Hills resident parents to join us. So whether your kids are 6 or 16, if you want to be on top of what’s
going on, we hope you will join us for this important evening. Space will be limited, so registration is requested.

attended, to reserve your space. The event is free of charge and is intended for adults only.

Drama Parents
Don’t forget that Saturday, April 18 , we are meeting at the Theater to help build the sets for My Fair Lady,
10am until 3pm. Please come help – even if you are not a gifted artisan you can still help out. And it’s fun!
Also, if there is anyone available to help manage costumes during dress rehearsals and during the performance,

Drama Wish List : If you can provide any of the following the drama department will be very grateful! Blue
painter’s tape, safety pins, mechanical pencils, white gaffer’s tape, bobby pins, paper (any color, card stock and
regular), disposable paint roller pads, hairspray, small envelopes, disposable paint brushes, disposable paint
tray liners, staples for our staple gun (12 mm, 1/2” or 9/16”), batteries (mostly AA and 9-volt, some AAA, C, and
D). Feel free to drop off donations in the Theater during Open House, and catch some of our mini-performances
throughout the evening!

09-10 Pep Squad Tryouts
Current High School Students: There is a mandatory information meeting on Wednesday,April 22 from 3:30
- 4:30pm in room 508, when you will need to come to pick up your tryout packet. This is for students currently in
grades 9-11. Incoming Freshman: Come to the Incoming Freshmen Event right before Open House, 5:30pm
on Thursday night, April 16, to ask any questions you have about our squad. Then, on Thursday, April 23,
from 5-6pm in room 508, there will be a mandatory try-out information meeting for all incoming freshmen. Their
parents are also encouraged to attend. The Try-Out Clinic: We are hoping to have the try-out clinic on April
27, 28, 29, 30 from 3:30-5:30 pm, however, these dates are still subject to change. For more information,

Attention: Juniors and Sophomores
Learn more about local government and what is going on at City Hall. Pick up an application at the
CareerCenter and apply for the Student Liaison position to the Laguna Hills City Council. Students selected
(one for each semester 09-10) attend two evening City Council meetings each month. Applications will be due
Wednesday, May 13.

“Revenge of the Nerds”
In keeping with the purpose of this dance (to reward student stellar performance on these very important tests)
the API dance theme has been changed to “Revenge of the Nerds.” The dance is from 8-11pm. It is free, with
more news about how to qualify later. Only LHHS students are allowed and will be held on campus, Friday
night, April 24 . Nerdy duds will be the appropriate attire for the night, so get yours ready.

Comedy Sportz
Lookin’ for a good time? Try this - Friday night, April 17 , in the LHHS Theater. This showing of standup
laughs and creative comedy is the biggest value in town. The cost is a nominal $7 and includes all the laughter
you can stand and they throw in a bite-to-eat at no extra charge. Showtime is 7:00…So if paying your taxes has
got you down this week, get over it with a full dose of Comedy Sportz!

Supply Our School Raffle
On Thursday, April 16 At LHHS Open House you will have an opportunity to help our school fund its office
supplies, by purchasing Raffle Tickets at the “SUPPLY OUR SCHOOL RAFFLE”! Tickets will be $1 each or 6
for $5. Look for our table in the center of campus at LHHS Open House. Purchase your raffle tickets and any
way you look at it, YOU ARE A WINNER! Just by supporting LHHS, makes you a WINNER! For more

Boy’s Lacrosse is selling discount fundraising cards that can save you money on some of the places you go all

City of Laguna Hills Volunteer Connection Day
The annual Volunteer Connection Day event will take place this Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Laguna
HillsCommunity Center from 9am-12 noon. Community Service forms can be picked up in the CareerCenter
ahead of time. Projects for the day will include several trail clean-ups, a tree planting project, and other tasks to
clean and beautify our community. A “thank you” lunch will be provided to the volunteers immediately following

Lost, But Not Found….YET!
Please help us clean up in preparation for Incoming Freshmen Night and Open House. LHHS does have a Lost
& Found and it’s brimming with unclaimed clothing, backpacks, binders, shoes, and “stuff” that has been
collected since September. On Friday, April 17, it will be collected and donated to charity. So please go by
before or during Open House and see if YOU have something in there! Many things even have names in them:
Loos – sweatshirt, Varona – backpack, Lograno – black binder. Find the things you didn’t know you were
missing in the two cabinets just outside the entrance to the Library!

One of the benefits of doing Hawk Happenings is becoming aware of the MANY ways parents can and are
needed to get involved. I feel sure there are lots of parents who are willing and are just not sure HOW to get
connected or don’t know who to call. So, here’s a sampling of some of the ways YOU could become a vital part
of the LHHS community. It is a community, and it needs to tap into all resources. Whether you can bake a
batch of cookies, distribute flyers about the upcoming musical production, donate empty cartridges, contribute
construction help, or just show up to a meeting, please consider one or more of these parent opportunities:
