elements.

civilization

pertaining to these two topics.
Grading:
1. major tests (usually 2 per term) – 100 pts each
2. quizzes (normally on vocabulary, grammar and translation) – 10-30 pts each
3. research report or project – 40 pts each
4. homework –100 pts total
5. class participation –100 pts total
Rules:
1. No throwing of any kind for any reason. This includes tossing a pencil to a friend. Throwing results
in an automatic 5 minute detention.
2. Any student more than two minutes late will be considered tardy and will have to make up the time
after school.
3. Please do not pack up or cease work earlier than 3 minutes before the end of class, if you do you
will also owe me some time after school.
4. No food or drink is allowed in the classroom (other than water). I do not want to clean up after you.
Any food being eaten will be taken from you and may be eaten in front of you if I'm hungry. Gum is
allowed so long as I don’t see or hear it.
5. Speak respectfully to everyone in the classroom.
6. Please do not use any electronic devices in the classroom. Headphones, cameras and cell phones
should be out of sight and turned off. Anyone using these devices will be written up.
7. People who owe my detention time will be listed on the board along with the date they received the
detention. If you do not serve your detention in 5 school days you will be written up.
Policies:
1. Extra credit for study materials will be given on every test, and only on tests.
These include: self-made study sheets, flash cards, and parent notes saying that they quizzed you.
Very rarely I might ask for tissues as extra credit on a major quiz.
2. Your overall grade is determined by a points system. It is calculated by dividing the total points you
have earned by the total number you could possibly have earned and then multiplying by 100.
3. Quizzes will be given often and will generally count for about 30 points, tests for around 100 and
projects for 40 pts. Quiz policies:
a. you can guess on principle parts (something you cannot do on tests)
b. The parts count for 2 points, the definition for 2 points
c. Latin spelling counts, English spelling does not so long as I know what you are
saying
4. Homework counts as a full 100 pt test grade and not doing it can have several letter grades of
difference on your term grade. Late or incomplete homework will be given half credit.
5. Certain handouts are considered mandatory handouts. You need to have these with you everyday in
class. (This is your 1st mandatory handout)
6. Please keep all graded material and mandatory handouts here in the classroom inside the folders
provided or in your own folder that you bring everyday with you to class.
7. It is YOUR responsibility to find out what work you have missed and to make it up. Do not come up
to me at the beginning of class and try to discuss this though, wait until we start group work. Try to take
tests and quizzes on time since your grade generally suffers even if you make the work up.
8. Vocabulary Probation: If you never study for your vocab quizzes I may insist that you show me the
words on the quiz written out 5 times each in order to take the quiz. If you fail to show up with this
proof of studying, I will keep you after to make up the studying and the quiz.
10.Consistant failure to turn in homework: I may keep you after to do your
homework with me.
11. Extra help is available after school most days except Tuesdays if there is a faculty
meeting, and Fridays during the spring and fall when I work elsewhere.
12. Please keep your textbook covered and bring it to class everyday. (but keep it in
your locker otherwise).
13. If I have to loan you a textbook, it will count as – ½ a homework assignment.
This can add up quickly and affect your grade.
