2012 AAFCS Fall Leadership Workshop
WHO: Affiliate President-Elect and/or designated Affiliate Leader(s) for 2012-2013, including
Student Unit leaders
WHAT: Leadership and professional development workshop that provides opportunities to learn,
share, and network with your peers in AAFCS.
WHERE: Courtyard Arlington Crystal City/Reagan National Airport, 2899 Jefferson Davis
Highway, Arlington, VA, 22202-4039.
WHEN: October 12-14, 2012
Registration begins at 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 12. The CFCS Exam will be administered
Friday 1:30 – 5 pm, so plan your arrival accordingly if interested in testing.
(Program starts with dinner and opening session on Friday at 6:00 p.m., continues Saturday
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and concludes at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday.)
WHY: The APU Leadership Workshop is a gathering of AAFCS affiliate leaders, designed to
provide resources and assistance that will help us all fulfill our AAFCS leadership roles.
Leaders will increase knowledge of AAFCS priorities, initiatives, services, procedures, and
resources along with affiliate management techniques, ideas, and skills. They will learn
from one another as they share expertise and ideas.
Now is the time to plan your participation!
Complete the registration form. Leadership Conference registration is $75.00 for each person, checks payable
to AAFCS. The Young/Goebel Leadership Fund underwrites a portion of the conference expenses. The
registration fee includes conference sessions, materials, and meals – Friday evening's dinner, breakfast and
lunch on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday.
Make your travel and lodging arrangements. AAFCS has reserved a block of rooms at the Courtyard Arlington
Crystal City Marriott, Arlington, VA. You are responsible for making your own reservations directly with the
hotel, for all nights. Make reservations by phone at Marriott Reservations, 1-800- 321-2211. Mention that you
are with the AAFCS Leadership Conference group, and use the code AAF as a reference. When booking online

Rates: Ask for AAFCS Group Rate. The rate is $99 + tax for single, double, triple, or quad. Parking is $9.00 per
day. Free internet in rooms. Make your reservation no later than Friday, September 14, 2012, to guarantee this

Final Agenda will be developed by APU Program Team. Volunteer to present or nominate a speaker or topic to

APU Program Team, please let Jane know ASAP.
Dress for the workshop is Resort or Business Casual.
Certified in FCS: If you are certified in Family and Consumer Sciences (CFCS), you can receive professional
development units (PDUs) for attending the Leadership Workshop.
