For those visiting Canada for the first time, Edmonton is a tourist attraction that
should not be missed. Aptly dubbed “Festival City” of Canada, it offers a
seemingly unending list of choices that cater to every taste. It is common to plan a
trip around a show, sport, festival or concert and extend it to see Edmonton’s
tourist attractions while staying in a comfortable and centrally located hotel.
These hotels offer special stay packages for concerts, sports events and shows,
making it even more enjoyable.

Canada’s cultural capital

Visiting all the tourist attractions in Edmonton will require a few days to truly
appreciate all the sights. Some of these are:

      West Edmonton Mall- This is the largest shopping mall in North America
      and the fifth largest in the world. Besides shopping, the mall offers
      entertainment in the form of Galaxy land, an indoor amusement park,
      World Waterpark, sea life caverns, ice palace, golf course, movie theaters
      Rexall Place – Home to the Edmonton Oilers and venue for major
      international music concerts
      South Edmonton Common is a retail complex with stores for a day out
      shopping
      Old Strathcona historical district which has a number of shops and walking
      tours
      Muttart Conservatory is a beautiful place where visitors can explore
      jungles, oases, flora and forests all within four glass pyramids.
      Devonian Botanic garden lies southwest of the city and spreads across an
      80-acre garden and an expanse of natural space representing wetlands,
      gardens and scenic landscapes.
      Valley Zoo is for animal lovers housing more than one hundred endangered
      species.
      Elk Island National Park is a photographer’s paradise and home to a number
      of bird and animal species. There are plenty of skiing and hiking trails.
      The Northlands Park has events throughout the year
      Art Gallery of Alberta and Royal Alberta Museum
      The Farmers Markets
      Fort Edmonton Park is an open air museum and has an 1846 style fort.
      There are interpreters in costume who bring back a bygone era.
      TELUS World of Science has an amazing IMAX Theatre that shows
      fascinating films from all over the world. Near this is an excellent
      planetarium called the Margaret Zeidler Star Theatre.
      John Janzen Nature Centre which has a delightful indoor play area to teach
      children about nature.

Sports is a major part of the tourist attraction in Edmonton and there is NHL
hockey, CFL football, the Indy car racing, horse racing, Rexall Indy, Canadian Finals
Rodeo and more.The locals also enjoy a number of excellent recreational
activities throughout the year including swimming, golfing, skateboarding,
daycamps and more.

In terms of entertainment, there is no dearth of exhibitions, shows and concerts.
The Capital Ex is an annual ten day event in July at the Northlands Park and
features concerts, parades, games, rides and lots of fun. This celebrates the 1890
Klondike Gold rush. Heritage Festival in August has over sixty cultural pavilions
celebrating crafts, foods and culture from all over the world. Folk festival in
August is an annual music event with performers from all over the globe.

Visitors to the city can enjoy a gala of music, visual arts, sports, family fun, culture
and performances along with trade exhibitions
