USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT ASSISTS IN YORK ANIMAL SHELTER FUNDING
York, Neb., March 3, 2009--The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural
Development has awarded $605,000 to the York Adopt-A-Pet to construct a new 8,000 square
foot animal shelter. The facility will combine the care of dogs and cats for York County. York
Adopt-A-Pet will contribute $229,000 towards the facility.
“We are thrilled to have the support of the community and USDA Rural Development in the
construction of a new animal shelter for York. This would not be possible without the help of all
the people associated with York Adopt-A-Pet,” stated Charles Sanders of the York Adopt-A-Pet
board of directors. “The new shelter will improve the quality of care that we can provide for the
dogs and cats that come to us and provide for a legacy of continued community service.”
“It’s a pleasure to work with the board on this project. The new animal shelter has been needed
for some time and will be a great asset to York Adopt-A-Pet and the City of York,” stated Area
Specialist Janice Stopak, USDA Rural Development.
USDA funding for this project was provided through the Community Facility Direct Loan
program for a term of 40 years at 4.75 percent interest.
