APPENDIX K
RIGHT TO WORK DOCUMENTS
Under the Migration Act 1958, it is a criminal offence to knowingly or
recklessly allow an illegal worker to work, or to refer an illegal worker for work.
We are required to check candidate’s eligibility to work in Australia before
they start work. We are therefore asking all candidates to bring proof of their
right to work to interview and a copy will be taken. If a candidate does not
currently have the right to work, and needs to apply for a visa, this should be
noted on the application form and raised at interview.
If the candidate is successful at interview this documentation will be kept on
his/her personnel file. If they are not successful, the documentation will be
shredded and securely disposed of. If the candidate forgets to bring this
documentation, they must be asked to bring the original documents to UCL
before an offer can be made and contract sent.
Who has the right to work in Australia?
Australian citizens;
Austrian permanent residents;
New Zealand citizens who entered Australia on a current New Zealand
passport and were granted a visa with work entitlements on arrival and;
non-Australian citizens holding a valid visa with work entitlements are
entitled to work.
What is Proof?

Australian citizenship certificate, or
Certificate of Evidence of Citizenship, or

certificates issued after 20 August 1986 cannot be used to confirm
