							                                         PRESIDENT’S AWARD

                                             Marsha Walcott Watson

Marsha Watson has been a member of the Florida Civil Rights Association since May of 2005,
two months after its formation. She initially volunteered to assist with editing FCRA newsletter.
I want to help from behind the scene she often stated. Her ability to type 100 words per minute
and vast administrative expertise resulted in her appointment to State Secretary almost
immediately. Other responsibilities have included Chairperson of Missing Women and Children
of Color, and Events Coordinator. While the titles may seem few, she has volunteered well over
1,000 hours to promoting the causes important to our community; she is truly a Jackie of all
trades and proclaims to master none. Marsha’s tireless dedication to promoting the efforts of
the Florida Civil Rights Association and the needs of our citizens has come with great sacrifices
of her time and resources. It can truthfully be said that we would not be here without her.

Marsha has worked for over 20 years as a member of the local law enforcement community, always championing the
cause for fair treatment and justice for all. A native of the U.S. Virgin Islands, she moved to Central Florida in the 1980s
and hit the community involvement trail.

Initially involved with her daughter, who is now a senior at the University of South Florida. She was a Girl Scout Leader
for five years and served on the Orange County Girl Scout Board for one year, addressing the issues of minority girls in
scouting. Transitioning her girls from Brownies to Cadet’s, her troop was disbanded when the girls went to middle school
and traded their badges for musical instruments and sports. Band Mom and Lacrosse Chauffer are also titles that she
has worn proudly. Active in her church for seven years she mentored pre-teen and teenage male and females on being
good citizens, promoting positive values and that living the Christian life can be fun. Her event planning skills were even
utilized in the church setting, where she often planned safe positive alternative activities for her “kids.”

Since 2002 she has been active with Senior Citizens Issues at a local Senior Recreation Center. She enjoys teaching
beginning computer skills to her seniors as well as planning outings and social events. Watson’s philosophy is that “you
simply do what you have to do, that is the only way it gets done.”

The Florida Civil Rights Association Proudly Recognizes Marsha Watson as the recipient of the 2007 President’s Award
for her dedication to this organization’s vision and value statement and a proven track record of community involvement.
