Approximately 40 million people have HIV/AIDS
60% of the cases are in sub-Saharan Africa
People under 25 account for half of all new HIV
infections
8,000 persons die daily of the virus
Approximately 600,000 children each year are
infected
13 million children have been orphaned due to the
pandemic
Advocacy
The Church can advocate for
those living with AIDS by:

Extending care and support to those living with
AIDS and their friends and families
Participating in World AIDS Day every December 1
Supporting national and global programs like the
United Methodist Global AIDS Fund

United Methodist Commitment
The 2004 United Methodist
General Conference created
the United Methodist Global
AIDS Fund.
The goal is to raise $1 for
every United Methodist
representing the commitment
of all of us to work towards an
AIDS-free world.
Annual Conference Goal
Every annual conference is asked
to set a goal of $1.00 per member.
Annual conferences can choose to
keep 25% of funds raised to be
used in that conference for AIDS
work in local or global projects.
Supporting Ministries
The UM Global AIDS Fund has
provided financial support to many
groups including:
St. Paul’s Methodist Health Center/HIV
Comprehensive Care Center in Kenya
Hospital ministries for testing, treatment and care at
Ganta Hospital, Liberia and Chicuque Hospital,
Mozambique
Comprehensive Rural Health Project in India
Ministries to AIDS orphans in Zimbabwe and
Mozambique
Ambassadors
The United Methodist Global
AIDS Fund Ambassador
program seeks people
dedicated to ending AIDS.
Laity and pastors are invited to become
Ambassadors for the United Methodist Global
AIDS Fund
Ambassadors agree to raise both awareness and
money, working toward an AIDS-free world.
The Global AIDS
Fund Committee
The work of the United Methodist
Global AIDS Fund is coordinated by
a group of people recommended by
the general agencies of the United
Methodist Church.
