What needs to be done before testing?
In order to take any of the official GED® tests, a student must first take an official
GED® practice test at one of our on or off campus class sites and score at least
480. This must be done for each of the (5) subject areas. The student must then
obtain a completed GED® Sign-up form from the instructor and present this to the
Testing Center. At that time, the student must pay the testing fee, present proper
identification and complete the registration forms. When all of this is done, the
student will be scheduled for the official GED® test(s).
What is the cost for testing?
The cost to take all (5) of the official GED® tests is $ 25.00. This must be paid at
the time of registration for the first GED® test.
What identification is required?
Each student must present (at the time of registration) a driver’s license, valid
passport, military ID or other form of government-issued identification that shows
NAME, ADDRESS, DATE OF BIRTH, SIGNATURE AND PHOTOGRAPH.
Outdated identification will NOT be accepted. If one form of identification does
not meet all of the requirements, an appropriate combination of other documents
will be accepted to satisfy the eligibility requirement.
What score is necessary to pass the GED® tests?
A total score of 2250 is required to pass the GED® tests. The minimum passing
score for each of the (5) tests is a standard score of 410. This, however, only
adds up to 2050, so a student must make more than the minimum passing score
on (1) or more of the tests to satisfy the required total score requirement. Scores
for individuals not completing all of the GED® tests or for those who have failed to
attain the minimum total score of 2250 shall become invalid after (5) years.
Will a diploma be received after passing the GED® tests?
Yes. The North Carolina Department of Community Colleges will automatically
issue a GED® Diploma to each student who passes all of the GED® tests. There
is no cost for this service. Also, Roanoke-Chowan Community College holds a
graduation ceremony each year for GED® graduates. Students wishing to
participate in this exercise and/or receive a diploma from RCCC must pay a
graduation fee. There is also an additional fee if the student wishes to have
his/her diploma mailed without participating in the ceremony.
