Leadership Wilkes-Barre proudly announces that Andrea Benco Dental
Caladie, CPA, will be awarded the 2012 Distinguished Leadership
Award at the upcoming Annual Dinner and Graduation; which will
be held Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Woodlands Inn. The dinner Genetti’s Hotel & Confer-
ence Center/Kirby Park
celebrates Leadership Wilkes-Barre’s graduating class of 2012,
marking 31 years of developing community leaders, and
welcomes the incoming Class of 2013.

Andrea, Governmental Compliance Director for ParenteBeard,
LLC, is a 1999 graduate of Leadership Wilkes-Barre’s Core pro-
gram. With over 22 years of accounting experience working with
non-profits, colleges and universities, commercial and government Andrea Caladie, CPA
entities, she lends her knowledge and expertise to such community Wilkes University
organizations as the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts, where she
serves as board member and treasurer, and Candy’s Place. She also serves
as treasurer to Circle 200 and currently serves on the Leadership Wilkes- St. Anthony’s Parish
Barre Board of Director’s Executive Committee. Prior to joining the LWB Center
Executive Committee, Andrea served as chair of the LWB Alumni Council and
Within ParenteBeard, LLC, Andrea is said to act as a mentor and coach
to younger team members, encouraging them to be leaders. She is a gradu-
ate of their internal leadership program, Leadership, Entrepreneurism and Justin Davis Wilkes University
Achievement at ParenteBeard (LEAP), an intensive three-year program
focusing on such skills as strategic leadership and relationship building. For her dedication and hard
work she was selected by her peers to receive the Leadership Excellence Award in June 2009.
Andrea will be presented with the Distinguished Leadership Award at the 31st Annual Leadership
Wilkes-Barre Dinner and Graduation, where 49 local professionals who have dedicated nearly ten
months to learning about the community in which they live, work, and play will be celebrated and the
incoming Class of 2013 will be welcomed. Individuals interested in attending the cocktail hour and
dinner on June 7, 2012 may contact the Leadership Wilkes-Barre office at 570-823-2101 ext. 135;
reservations are $55.
Justin Davis, Chief Operations Officer for Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, will serve as chair-
person for the 2012 Annual Dinner & Graduation. Justin is a 2010 graduate of Executive Leadership
Wilkes-Barre and currently serves on the LWB Board of Directors.

Leadership Wilkes-Barre Accepting Applications for the Class of 2013
Core Class of 2012
Leadership Wilkes-Barre is now accepting applications for the Core program Class of 2013. For over 30 years,
Leadership Wilkes-Barre has been helping participants develop both professionally and personally while using
their leadership experience and skills as a springboard to take a more active role in their jobs, companies, and
Leadership Wilkes-Barre’s Core program is a nine month program designed to develop leadership skills in area
professionals through knowledge of team building, communication styles, presentation ability, and networking.
Additionally, it provides participants the opportunity to learn more about their community and encourages active
participation in community organizations, committees and events. The program consists of a combination of presen-
tations, class experiences, workshops and hands-on involvement in a community enrichment or beautification project.
Current Class of 2012 projects include:
• Blue Chip Animal Refuge – conduct supply drives, raise awareness and provide assistance renovating the
property of this no-kill animal shelter.
• Leadership Offers Laughter (LOL) – a one-day festival, in conjunction with the national World Laughter Day,
highlighting the benefits of laughter through family friendly activities and entertainment.
• Special Spaces – to work with the national chapter in creating dream bedrooms for children with life-challeng-
• Wilkes-Barre Bears – facilities improvements for the mini-football team, including concessions, a scoreboard
• Wilkes-Barre Free Clinic – providing assistance to the Wilkes-Barre free clinic through increased awareness
and donations of office and medical supplies.
• Youth Revolution – a festival for area youth with vendors and information on healthy life choices.
Leadership Wilkes-Barre is a tuition based program. Participants are self sponsored or sponsored by their respec-
tive corporations/organizations. Scholarship assistance is also available.

Leadership WIlkes-Barre Mid-Winter Cocktail Party
Patrick J. Solano was recently honored
with the 2012 Community Leadership Award
at Leadership WIlkes-Barre’s Annual Mid-Win-
ter Cocktail Party. Held February 3rd at the
Westmoreland Club, over 400 guests attend-
ed to share in this honor, including Governor
Tom Corbett. Governor Corbett addressed the
group and spoke highly of Pat’s character and
his willingness to lend his knowledge to him
and to others, highlighting the impact he has
made in the careers and lives of many.
Though not always visible in the pub-
lic’s eye, Pat has led an exemplary life of
leadership and service. During World War
Pat Solano offers remarks after receiving the
II, he completed 23 combat missions with the 2012 Community Leadership Award
Eighth U.S. Air Force Heavy Bombardment
Group. For his service, he was awarded the Group Presidential Citation, the Air Force Medal with two Oak Leaf
Clusters, and the European Combat Theatre Medal with two Bronze Stars. In his professional career, he has held
numerous prestigious positions, including Senior Counselor to Governor Tom Ridge and Governor Mark Schweik-
er, as well as Senior Advisor to the Pennsylvania State Senate Majority Leader, Dominick Pilleggi. Pat has also
served as friend and advisor to numerous public officials and community leaders, and is always willing to share
his knowledge and leadership expertise with others.
In addition to his military awards, Pat has also been the recipient of numerous other awards, including the
Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the Pennsylvania Environmental
Council’s Thomas P. Shelbourne Environmental Leadership Award, a Doctor of Humane Letters from Misericordia
University, and the United States Army Corps of Engineers Commander’s Award. Mr. Solano resides in Pittston
Township with his wife Marie. They are the parents of six daughters and have 11 grandchildren.
