How does a sprinter use engineering to design the perfect shoe? Can the type of material used on a running track affect a runner’s speed? What engineering advances help professional golfers perfect their club swing? How does the turf in a football stadium help absorb the shock of a tackled 210 lb. running back? Show off your creative side—along with a little athletic ingenuity—and go behind the scenes to design the TEAMS 2008 Competition T-shirt!
The Contest
Design an image for the TEAMS 2008 Competition T-shirt focusing on the engineering theme, Behind the Scenes: Athletic Events.
The Prizes
• • • • Bragging rights. The winning design will be placed on the back of the annual TEAMS t-shirt and on the cover of the TEAMS competition set. Free TEAMS competition registration for the winning design’s team. Complimentary t-shirts, made possible by Shell, given to every TEAMS participant and coach. Recognition on the TEAMS website.
The Basics

Contest opens September 1, 2007 and closes November 1, 2007. Open to all students in grades 9-12 who will be participating in the 2008 JETS TEAMS Competition. Individual and team entries will be accepted. More than one entry may be submitted from the individual and/or team. All designs must be emailed to teams@jets.org with the subject heading “TEAMS T-shirt Design Entry”. Submitted entries must include the following: Design (Read “The Guidelines”). Indicate individual or team entry. Name(s) of student(s) involved in design. Name of high school, city, and state. Phone number and email of TEAMS Coach or teacher representative.
The Guidelines

Design may focus on any aspect/discipline of engineering related to the “Athletic Events” theme. Design must completely fill an 8.5” x 11” letter-size paper. Design may be hand-drawn or computer-generated.* Maximum of 4 colors may be used. Artwork must be submitted with 300 DPI or higher resolution. Not preferred but acceptable design file formats: JPEG TIFF Publisher (saved as high resolution PDF) Hand-drawn designs:
*Preferred computer-generated design programs: Adobe Illustrator Macromedia Freehand CorelDRAW Submit file in EPS format with ALL text converted to outlines.
Art must fill the entire 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper. Acceptable mediums are markers, ink, or acrylics. GIF, PNG, Word, PowerPoint, or other web ready, Must be converted to a JPEG or TIFF file (300 DPI) for low resolution art will not be accepted. submission.

Designs will be judged based on creativity, originality, and relevancy to theme. Artwork is subject to modification due to potential printing and restrictions of file formats. If art is submitted in preferred file formats and all requirements are met, fewer revisions may be required. Odds of winning depend on the number of entries submitted. All expenses incurred with the design of the artwork are the responsibility of the contestant. Artwork or content deemed inappropriate by JETS for purpose of contest (offensive in nature or irrelevant to theme) will not be considered for final judging. All submissions become property of JETS and contestant(s) must agree to the unlimited use of his/her name(s), school, and design for use by JETS for promotional and publication purposes without additional compensation. Artwork should be original. Contestant(s) take all legal responsibility for trademark infringement or unauthorized use of copywrited or trademarked images. Entries submitted after November 1, 2007 will not be considered. All decisions by judges are final. The Olympic Games, World Cup, and Super Bowl are in no way affiliated with JETS, TEAMS, or the TEAMS tshirt design competition.
