  Policy:
  Lisbon Treaty

Taking Europe into the 21st century

The Treaty of Lisbon entered into force on 1 December
2009. It provides the EU with modern institutions and
optimised working methods to tackle both efficiently and
effectively today's challenges in today's world. In a
rapidly changing world, Europeans look to the EU to address
issues such as globalisation, climatic and demographic
changes, security and energy. The Treaty of Lisbon
reinforces democracy in the EU and its capacity to promote
the interests of its citizens on a day-to-day basis.

  Policy:
  EU 2020 Strategy
Europe 2020 is the EU's growth strategy for the coming decade.
In a changing world, we want the EU to become a smart,
sustainable and inclusive economy. These three mutually
reinforcing priorities should help the EU and the Member States
deliver high levels of employment, productivity and social cohesion.
Concretely, the Union has set five ambitious objectives - on
employment, innovation, education, social inclusion and
climate/energy - to be reached by 2020. Each Member State will
adopt its own national targets in each of these areas. Concrete
actions at EU and national levels will underpin the strategy.

       http://ec.europa.eu/europe2020/index_en.htm
  Policy:
  Flagship Initiatives
New engines to boost growth and jobs. These areas are
addressed by 7 flagship initiatives.
Within each initiative, both the EU and national authorities
have to coordinate their efforts so they are mutually
reinforcing..
                      Smart growth
                          Digital agenda for Europe
                          Innovation Union
                          Youth on the move
                      Sustainable growth
                          Resource efficient Europe
An industrial policy for the globalisation era
                      Inclusive growth
An agenda for new skills and jobs
                          European platform against poverty
Policy: Innovation Union
Flagship Initiative
Innovation provides real benefits for us as citizens, consumers,
and workers. It speeds up and improves the way we conceive,
develop, produce and access new products, industrial processes
and services. It is the key not only to creating more jobs,
building a greener society and improving our quality of life,
but also to maintaining our competitiveness on the global market.
One of the seven flagship initiatives of the Europe 2020 strategy
for a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy.
Aim to do three things:
   world-class science performer;
   remove obstacles to innovation
revolutionize the way public and private sectors work together,.
       http://ec.europa.eu/research/innovation-union/index_en.cfm?pg=intro
 Policy: Resource-Efficient
 Europe Flagship Initiative
Supports the shift towards a resource-efficient, low-carbon
economy to achieve sustainable growth.

Increasing resource efficiency is key to securing growth and jobs for
Europe. It will bring major economic opportunities, improve
productivity, drive down costs and boost competitiveness.

Provides a long-term framework for actions in many policy areas,
supporting policy agendas for climate change, energy, transport,
industry, raw materials, agriculture, fisheries, biodiversity and regional
development.

European Research Area

               An open space for knowledge

The European Research Area is composed of all research
and development activities, programmes and policies
in Europe which involve a transnational perspective.
Together, they enable researchers, research institutions and
businesses to increasingly circulate, compete and co-operate
across borders. The aim is to give them access to a
Europe-wide open space for knowledge and
technologies in which transnational synergies and
complementarities are fully exploited.

Coping with
Climate Change

A key challenge for the remaining period of FP7 is
to develop a more effective interface between
climate change knowledge, social and economic
systems and the policy making process.
