ACTIVITIES IN DETAIL - 1

   Materials prepare in general for 3
    international external exams:
           IELTS – TOEFL – CAE

   Marks:
    writing portfolio 30%
    written midterm 20% - written final 20%
    oral final 20% - attendance 10% (quizzes)
    ACTIVITIES IN DETAIL – 2a

   Writing Portfolio: 3 essays, one from each
    of the 3 international exams
   Each essay’s tips, formats, criteria, etc. will
    be explained in class
   Classes will Include Writing Workshops to
    proofread and check
   BECAUSE I WILL READ ONLY 3 ESSAYS
    FROM EACH STUDENT: NO ROUGH DRAFTS

Why study writing?
   Research has shown conclusively:
    Writing well improves other language skills
   Basis of your future work situation,
    wherever it is – emails, presentations,
    publications
   Structure of texts QUITE different in English
   Difficult to improve without conscious study
ACTIVITIES IN DETAIL - 3

   Midterm: Mid January 2010
   English in Use, Listening, as in class
   Students who obtain 27/30 or more and
    have successfully completed their
    writing portfolio
   will sit oral exam immediately and if obtain
    27/30+ will have completed English III.

   Written Final: similar to Midterm

    Oral Final: based on a small book
    we’ll read together
