HACT is a housing- focused charity and social enterprise which works with housing associations and
other social housing providers to help them respond to a rapidly developing new civic economy, and
maximise their positive impact on the communities and neighbourhoods they work in.

With an exciting and developing work programme, and engagement from across the housing sector,
we are looking for two dynamic, energetic paid interns to help us shape and deliver our 2012-13

The affordable housing sector is facing the biggest challenges since its re-founding in the 1960s:

 Changes in government subsidy for new homes that challenge the established business models
    of affordable housing providers;
   The sweeping away of top down targets, inspection and regulation;
   Radical welfare reforms;
   Reform of the planning system;
   An ongoing housing crisis, both of supply and affordability;
 The introduction of direct competition from the private sector

The wider context in which housing providers are operating is also radically changing:

   Austerity, declining living standards and continued economic uncertainty;
   Continuing social, cultural and demographic changes, including an ageing society and migration;
   The emergence of localism;
   Changes to the relationship between the citizen and the state;
 The growth of ‘participatory democracy’ and co-production

As values-driven businesses, often based in some of our most deprived communities, and committed
to their residents and neighbourhoods, housing providers have the potential to lead and shape this
new agenda.

HACT is developing an exciting range of partnership projects in 2012-13, bringing together housing
providers and key players from across the broader civil society sector to develop the knowledge, and
tools and pilot the approaches needed to respond to that challenge.

We are currently seeking to appoint two paid interns on 4 month contracts to help us deliver on our
