……………………………………………………………………………… (Names), Member(s) of the Zonta Club of ………………………………………………………., depart shortly to participate in the District 23 Zonta Conference to be held in Ballarat, Victoria from September 27-29. They will join 150 Zontians and guests from the Northern Territory, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia for a packed program of presentations and activities focused on service and advocacy, locally and globally. The Conference venue is located opposite the award-winning Sovereign Hill recreation of the gold diggings, and one of the leisure moments will be dinner on site followed by a Sound and Light presentation of “Blood on the Southern Cross”. It will not be a holiday! Our Zontian(s) will be discussing vital issues for women, deciding on projects for the coming biennium, and voting for the future leadership of Zonta in this part of the world. Gloria Stootman Wristen, the International Treasurer/Secretary representing the Zonta International Board, will be an honoured guest, here to present a message from International President Beryl Sten of Sweden. From Auburn in New York State, USA, Gloria is a firm believer that “many hands can do so much more to advance the status of
women worldwide”.
Keynote speakers will include Libby Lloyd, AM, Chair of the National Council to Reduce Violence Against Women and Children. Having worked on assignment to Indonesia and Iraq with the Commonwealth Public Service, Libby drew on those experiences as a recent President of UNIFEM Australia. Active in the establishment of the White Ribbon Campaign in Australia, Libby is a Board Member of the White Ribbon Foundation. Fiona Krautil is another keynote speaker, on the topic of leadership. Having enjoyed a high profile with the Westpac Bank, ESSO Australia, the ANZ Bank and as Federal Director of the Equal Opportunities for Women Agency, Fiona currently holds the position of National Executive Officer of Girl Guides Australia. Both of these Keynoters will provide food for thought for subsequent workshops, while other speakers will include recipients of Zonta Awards for outstanding achievement. Local member(s) ……………………of the Zonta Club of ……………………………. will have an opportunity to share news of their recent activities, and expect to return armed with fresh ideas to contribute to our local community.
