FIREBONE THEATRE COMPANY is pleased to announce the US premiere of Chris Cragin’s EMILY, directed by Steve Day. EMILY will play a three-week limited engagement at Theatre Row’s Kirk Theatre (410 West 42nd Street.) Performances begin Friday, September 11 and continue until Sunday, September 27. Opening Night is Wednesday, September 16 at 8 p.m.
Press performances are Friday, September 11, Saturday, September 12, Sunday, September 13. (non-press performances will be accommodated upon request.)
By the time she was 30, Emily Dickinson had so isolated herself from the world that she never left the house and rarely accepted visitors. Many have hypothesized why, suggesting madness, scorned love, or secret homosexuality. EMILY looks at the events and relationships in Dickinson’s life, and presents these as possible pieces to the puzzle. It offers Emily's poetic voice as a glimpse of her true self: her passionate spirituality, vigorous intellect, courageous sense of humor, and wounded heart.

BIOGRAPHIES
CHRIS CRAGIN (Playwright) is a New York City playwright/screenwriter who was recently chosen as one of twelve writers in the inaugural Emerging Writer’s Group at The Public Theater. (http://publictheater.org/content/view/154/#2008) Her play, The River Nun, was recently presented at The Public as part of the Emerging Writer’s Group Spotlight Series. Chris’s work has been seen across America, including Oklahoma, Texas, North Carolina, Indiana, New York, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Vancouver, Canada. Her play, Deadheading Roses, was produced at The Lamb’s Little Theatre in Times Square in 2005. Other full-length plays include: A War in a Manger (commissioned by Art Within Theatre), Debutantes Anonymous, Love and Money. One acts include: Dig and Port Authority (Developed in the EWG at The Public), Milking Success (Actor’s Theatre of Louisville Semi-finalist), Peanut Butter or Soy, Resurrection, Vitrane Woman, and Pankhurst. Chris received her MFA in Stage Directing from Baylor University and her BA in Theatre from OBU. She currently serves as the head writer for Vertical Learning Curve (www.vlcglobal.com) and the resident playwright at Firebone Theatre (www.firebonetheatre.com.)

STEVE DAY (Director) After earning his BA in Theatre, Steve spent time in Wales developing a theatre troupe for teens. He returned to Raleigh, NC, to work as actor and Technical Director for Burning Coal Theatre. Steve then earned his Directing MFA from Baylor, where he assisted Horton Foote’s 50th Anniversary production of The Traveling Lady and directed the Southern premiere of Foote's The Actor. Directing credits include: A Mysterious Way in the New York subways, Refuge of Lies at Theatre Row, Invisible Child (MTF), the world premiere of Deadheading Roses at the Lamb’s Little Theatre, Miguel Manara, a lyric play for Black Friars Theatre, and a workshop of The World is Round by Armand Salacrou for the Horizon Theatre Repertory. He currently is the Animation Director for Vertical Learning Curve, Artistic Director of Firebone Theatre, and is a member of the Lincoln Center directing lab and the Society of American Fight Directors.
FIREBONE THEATRE produces and develops works that explore immortalily (fire) and mortality (bone). Their first production was the world Premiere of the play Deadheading Roses by resident playwright Chris Cragin at The Lamb’s Little Theatre in Times Square. In 2008 they presented the North American premiere of Refuge of Lies by Ron Reed, at Theatre Row. Recently they produced A Mysterious Way, which was performed in a NYC subway station. Emily, by Chris Cragin, rounds out their season in September at Theatre Row.
