        This presentation will review the annual state assessment results from STAR and Advanced
        Placement tests; highlight positive gains in student performance, and discuss areas that might need
        improvement in the future.

6.    INSTANT RUN-OFF VOTING - 11:00 a.m.                                                       Larry Herrera

      The City Clerk will give a report on the proposed Instant Run-Off Voting (IRV) election proposal
      for the City of Long Beach.


7.    NEW TEACHER LUNCHEON – 12 Noon

8.    BUDGET WORKSHOP - 1:00 p.m.                                                               Kim Stallings

      Staff will present an updated look at actual expenses incurred in 2007-2008 as well as estimates for
      2008-2009 if the State has adopted a budget. New budget priorities will also be presented for the
      2008-2009 school year.


9.    ADVISORY PERIOD PILOT - 1:30 p.m.                                                       Board and Staff

      Staff and the Board of Education will discuss guidelines for a possible pilot Advisory Period
      program at the secondary level.

10.   LEA ADDENDUM FOR PROGRAM IMPROVEMENT - 2:15 p.m.                                       Robert Williams

      Staff will update the Board on the Program Improvement to the LEA Plan.

      This presentation will update the Board on policy change recommendations that are coming as a
      result of Teachers’ Council Representatives.


12.   GRADUATION RATE REPORT – 9:05 a.m.                                                         James Gulek,
                                                                                       Alex Chavez, Cliff Parks

      Staff will update the Board on the various methods used to determine high school graduation rate
      data and the multitude of support structures that are being utilized to improve the District’s
      graduation rate.

13.   LONG BEACH/FRESNO USD PARTNERSHIP - 10:20 a.m.                                             Robert Tagorda

      Staff will provide an overview of the new partnership with Fresno Unified School District and how
      it connects to the Academic and Career Success Initiative.

      Staff will update the Board on recent efforts to implement the initiative, including the 2013 district-
      wide academic goals.
