FE-DESIGN, one of the world-wide leading optimization specialists, continues the development of the software Autoduct based on the initial development at DaimlerChrysler research. This solution allows a nonparametric optimization of flow through channels based on a predefined optimization area. In combination with STAR CD, one of the leading CFD packages, an optimal material layout can be achieved for channels containing gasses and liquids. In this way the total pressure drop in the channels can be reduced by up to 50 %; whereby the aerodynamic efficiency of the optimized components rises significantly. There is a high demand within several ranges, e.g. components for engines, drive, exhaust and climate systems, for fast and efficient optimization methods to minimize the pressure lost in fluid channels. FE-DESIGN contributes in this partnership with its high level expertise in optimization. The know-how of the company has been obtained through many years of development and practical experience with the structural optimization software TOSCA.
Dr. Franz R. Klimetzek, head developer for the Autoduct system in the DaimlerChrysler research team, explained that FE-DESIGN was selected as development partner, "because we know FEDESIGN as a competent and reliable partner for structural optimization. We are convinced that the Karlsruhe team converts our high technical requirements on short notice and delivers a well documented solution with professional support. The
replacement of our own developed software with the new software from FE-DESIGN will take place as soon as possible. Until now Autoduct is intensively applied in the development of parts for components of cars and commercial vehicles because the rapidity and the simplicity given by the topology optimization of fluid canals significant increases the development process.“
