A TYPICAL DAY 7:30am-9:00am. Both before and after camp hours, childcare will be available for an additional fee. (See information in registration package and on-line.) CAMPER COUNSELLOR TIME 9:00am-9:30am. Every morning starts with activities and games played in small groups so all campers can get to know their counsellors and the rest of their group. FLAGPOLE 9:30am-10:00am. The whole camp gathers ‘round the flag to sing the camp song, raise the flag and get the day off on the right foot. MORNING SESSIONS 10:00am-12:l0pm. Each camper will attend drama, dance and vocal sessions every morning. These sessions are led by our highly skilled and energetic Artistic Staff. LUNCH 12:l5pm-12:40pm. Campers will eat in small groups with their counsellors. Each camper is responsible for bringing their own lunch as well as any snacks and beverages. LUNCHTIME ACTIVITIES 12:40pm-1:20pm. After eating lunch there are a ton of things to do. Campers can play a passive or an active game, search for Oscar, solve the “Phunny Phrases” or get wet at water day. PERFORMANCE SESSIONS 1:20pm-3:20pm. In the afternoons, campers will divide into their show groups and rehearse for the performance on the final day. END OF DAY FLAGPOLE 3:20pm-3:30pm. At the end of every day, the whole camp will get together to lower the flag and sing an end-of-day song before they head home. SUPERVISED CARE 3:30pm-5:00pm. See above. PERFORMANCE DAY On the final Friday of each session, a Performance Day for family and friends will be held at the Wolf Performance Hall in the Galleria Mall. This is an opportunity for all of our Original Kids Campers to get up on stage and perform the shows that they have been rehearsing all session. But this is just the beginning! Some of the most memorable events, such as the camp dance, camp songs and other skits, are also presented. The LIT program emphasizes the importance of working as a group and culminates in a number of theatrical skits performed for family and friends on the final Friday. Along with working together to create their skits, LITs observe the leadership styles of our seasoned counsellors and use these skills to develop and lead camp games with the younger campers. Come join us for an unforgettable summer of hands-on leadership challenges and fun! ADVANCED LEADERSHIP PROGRAM Directed by Wed Dedlow Ages: 13-17 Looking for a more in-depth leadership experience? Then the Advanced Leadership Program is for you! Along with leadership development workshops, ALPs have the opportunity to observe the leadership styles of our senior staff and learn what it takes to be a successful and positive leader. ALPs use these skills to lead camp games and to assist directing rehearsals of the various camp shows. New this year, campers in the Advanced Leadership Program will be eligible for certification by the Red Cross in CPR Level 'C'! Camp ok is a nut−free organization (except for our staff who are a good kind of nuts!) WHO WE ARE Original Kids Theatre Summer Camp is a safe environment where young people can grow and flourish without the fear that taking a risk is wrong or dangerous. It is a total theatre experience where children can blossom as performers. But this is not the only aspect of Camp OK; we offer lunchtime games, whole camp sports activities, water events and lots of good, clean fun. Original Kids is an attitude - an atmosphere of support. It is an environment in which children and young adults can express themselves without fear of ridicule, after all, they’re among friends! ARTISTIC DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE “A new year with old friends” seems to me an ideal way to describe how summer camp will feel this year. We are so happy to welcome a very experienced, talented and energetic staff for camp this summer, headed by our new Camp Director Justin Quesnelle, Leadership Coordinator Morgan Hillier and Program Coordinator Jessica Dawson. Welcome campers, it’s time to “Bring in the Game, Bring on the Play” – not to mention bringing on the fun of Camp OK. Dale Hirlehey Artistic Director Original Kids Theatre Company dent's Council. He is the co-Artistic Director of The Passionfool Theatre Company and is currently working as an actor/writer/ director in the area. He has spent numerous summers at the OKTC camp as a member of the artistic staff and as last year's Leadership Coordinator and cannot wait to get rolling on another fantastic summer! Morgan Hillier Leadership Coordinator Morgan is very excited to return for his seventh summer at OKTC camp! Having worked as a counsellor, program coordinator, artistic staff member and assistant camp director, Morgan brings great expertise to his position as the camp’s Leadership Coordinator. He has an extensive theatre background which includes numerous musical performances, instructing Jazz, Tap and Hip Hop classes, and choreographing for many amateur theatre organizations. Morgan is a graduate of McMaster University with a B.Sc. and a B.Kin. WHERE WE CAME FROM Our first camp operated out of Alma College, St. Thomas in the summer of 1992 with 72 campers in attendance. Now, in 2007, we are operating out of Huron University College grounds with over 500 campers enjoying our summer camp. OUR VENUE We are thrilled to announce that this summer the OKTC Summer Camp will be returning for our second year to the scenic grounds and the heritage buildings of The University of Western Ontario’s Huron College. Campers will love the fifty acres of spacious, secluded, shady lawns and the quaint period houses and modern facilities. Parents will appreciate the peaceful pastoral atmosphere, security of the setting and the easy access and parking off Western Road opposite the main UWO Campus (refer to map). This is a jewel of a setting, one perfectly suited to encourage creativity and safe, exciting summer fun! And what a gift it is to go to university when you’re still a kid! CAMP DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE Yes, that's right … summer is right around the corner. You know what that means? OKTC Camp 2007! This summer is shaping up to be the very best yet! The staff and I are thrilled with this year's selection of exciting shows and cannot wait to get back to the beautiful grounds at Huron College this coming July and August. New friends, familiar faces and the time of your lives are awaiting you at OKTC camp 2007! Justin Peter Quesnelle Camp Director Original Kids Theatre Company Jess Dawson Program Coordinator Jess could not be more excited to be this years Program Coordinator! She is in her fourth year at the University of Western Ontario obtaining a degree in Honours English with a minor in Drama - with plans to attend teacher's college in the fall. When she was seven she attended the first ever OKTC Summer Camp as a tiny camper and since then she has progressed from being a SKIT, to a Counsellor and then to the Artistic Staff as Dance Jess. To her, summer is not complete without OKTC Summer Camp and she has no doubt this year will be the best ever! Ben Sanders Assistant Administration Coordi− nator/Director of A Chorus Line Ben is a lifelong Original Kid - this will be his twelfth consecutive summer at Camp OKTC! Some kind of record to be sure! During the rest of the year, he studies acting at Ryerson University and plans to pursue a career in theatre. A long, long, time ago, he was in a production of A Chorus Line at Original Kids and is thrilled to return to this exciting material with a brand new bunch of enthusiastic performers. ABOUT OUR STAFF Many of our talented and enthusiastic staff members have made a career of teaching children the various aspects of the theatre arts in many fine organizations. They pride themselves in their ability to make the process of learning about theatre an exciting one for all children. In addition, several members of our staff are also seasoned performers, a number of whom are currently involved in the local theatre scene. ADMINISTRATION TEAM Justin Quesnelle − Camp Director Justin is absolutely thrilled to be back at camp this summer as the new Director! He has worked for a number of theatre camps in both artistic and program design capacities and has years of experience creating children's theatre. He is a National Scholar from UWO where he earned his undergraduate degree in Dramatic and Poetic Literature while serving dual terms as the Theatre Commissioner for the University Stu- ARTISTIC STAFF Brian Dittmer − Acting Brian Director of Pirates of the Caribbean Brian is thrilled to be back for another fun filled year at camp. He is currently studying theatre and development at Concordia University, while attempting to brush up on his French. Since the completion of last summer’s Comic Book Catastrophe, he has been eagerly anticipating the start of a new adventure in 2007. competitive dancing. Additional teaching experiences include guest teaching workshops for local competitive studios, guest instructing for various elementary and secondary schools in London, and two summers as a dance camp teacher at Dance Extreme. She has also choreographed Aladdin Jr. and Cabaret for OKTC main stage. She is a 4th year Philosophy student at UWO. TUITION The tuition for each two-week session is $450.00, which includes all professional instruction, an Original Kids T-shirt, a cast picture and a large dose of fun! A 10% discount is offered for multiple sessions and to siblings. Campers are welcome to attend one, two or all three sessions! Peyton LeBarr Director of When I Grow Up! Peyton is absolutely thrilled to be returning to camp after two whole summers. This will be her fifth year working on staff at OKTC and her first year as a director! After a year studying Humanities at the University of Toronto, she took a year off to work and was able to assistant direct OKTC main stage productions such as Seussical the Musical. Peyton is currently in her second year in the BFA Acting program at the University of Windsor and is loving every minute of it! She awaits this upcoming summer with great anticipation for she knows that this will surely be a summer filled with fun, love, and plenty of laughter! Sam Shoebottom − Acting Sam Director of Disney’s 101 Dalmatians Kids Sam is extremely happy to be back for his fourth year at summer camp. For main stage OKTC he has directed The Girl in the Mirror, Once on this Island, Swing!, Crazy For You, Anne Frank and Me, Twist of the Tongue and Dear Edwina Jr. He has been involved with many theatre companies in the London area in such shows as Tommy Keeler in Annie Get You Gun with LMT, Smee in Peter Pan at the Grand Theatre, Bill Calhoun in Kiss me Kate with LMT, Sam in Pedestrian X with Three Black Ring . Sam was trained in New York City at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. REGISTRATION We highly recommend that you use our NEW and greatly improved on-line registration system beginning March 1 2007 at www.oktc.ca Registration and medical forms are also available online for your convenience and can be mailed or delivered in person to 383 Richmond St, Suite 400, London On, N6A 3C4. Registrations are first come, first served. Full payment ($450) must accompany your registration. Online payments must be made by Visa or MasterCard. Cash, cheques payable to Original Kids Theatre and Visa/MasterCard are accepted for manual registration. Please do not mail cash. Note: As of publication, the proposed legislation governing the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit has not been enacted. Therefore it was not possible to definitively establish if registration fees for OKTC summer camp will be eligible in whole or in part for this program. As our camp includes significant physical activity, OKTC will make every effort to ensure its inclusion under the program. Chris Mamo − Director of the Leaders in Training (LIT) Program Chris is currently enrolled in the Sociology program at Wilfred Laurier University where he plays Varsity football and works with the Brothers and Sisters Organization in the community of Waterloo. He’s very excited to be a part of Camp this year as the L.I.T Director. He has worked at camp for the past 5 summers, but doesn’t remember the last time he was this excited for a summer. Paul Seale − Vocal Paul Afternoon Musical Director Having spent a summer off in 2006, Vocal Paul missed camp even more than he thought he would and is thrilled to return. A local country and folk singer, Paul depends on his own two young campers to help keep his repertoire fresh. Brady Paron − Vocal Brady Director of A Tribute to Wicked Vocal Brady is extremely excited to work at OKTC for yet another wonderful Summer! He is currently in his third year of a four-year Theatre and Drama Studies joint program with the University of Toronto at Mississauga and Sheridan College. Brady has two years of classical voice training and is currently studying a broad range of vocal styles with Elaine Overholt. He has played piano since he was young and started playing guitar a few years ago. Brady heard through the grapevine that the infamous Butterscotch Boys might make an appearance at OKTC this Summer! See you all there! Wes Dedlow − Director of the Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) Wes is currently studying Human Kinetics at Laurentian University in Sudbury. He has been involved with school and community based leadership initiatives and a number of athletic organizations across the province. A long time staff member of OKTC camp, 8 years and counting, Wes is thrilled to bring his years of experience to the Advanced Leadership Program. COUNSELLING STAFF Our counselors are the backbone of our camp. This highly energetic, mature group of young adults is trained to have fun, while keeping campers safe and ready to learn. They have a love of theatre and are all very talented members of our Original Kids Main Cast Company. Alayna Brown − Dance Alayna Afternoon Choreographer Alayna is back for her eighth summer on staff. This year she is thrilled to be stepping into a new role as Dance Alayna. She grew up dancing at Swan Studio and in the South Secondary School dance program. Currently, Alayna is finishing her fourth year of her honours degree in Health Sciences at Western as well as choreographing for OKTC main stage and working at the London Dance Shoppe. She can’t wait until July to be back at camp! SENIOR COUNSELLING STAFF With their extensive experience as counselors and their years of work in the theatre, these six individuals will be functioning both as counselors in the morning and assistants to the artistic staff in the afternoon. Although accidents and injuries are rare, our staff are trained in first aid emergency procedures specifically designed for the unique environment of Huron University College. First aid equipment and supplies are located throughout the facility. SAFETY FIRST Ashley Morrow − Dance Ashley Choreographer: So They Think They Can Dance Ashley began her teaching career at the Jaymor School of Dancing and in 2002 she received her certification through Dance Masters of America. This is her fifth year as a member of the faculty at Dance Extreme teaching recreational and NEW THIS SUMMER Each session is filled with brand new experiences: a brand new camp dance, new morning sessions, new games/activities, and new songs!
