Research Scientist
PHAR, LLC has a challenging and exciting opportunity for an experienced, highly skilled individual to join our
team of professionals in our Beverly Hills location. We are a boutique health services research consultancy and
currently seek a full-time Research Scientist with a strong background in health economic modeling and
programming. The Research Scientist will work closely with PHAR, LLC’s team of senior researchers and
clinicians to develop and implement health economic modeling projects. Specific tasks will include:
Model design and programming: Design structure of health economic models to quantify clinical and/or
economic impacts of healthcare technologies; utilize TreeAge, Excel, and other software programs to
develop models, including incorporating model inputs of various formats, running base-case and
sensitivity analyses, and presenting results in user-friendly formats; documenting all model
assumptions.
Literature review: Conduct literature searches for background information and model input data,
including: determining key words; conducting searches in PubMed, Medline, and/or grey literature;
downloading and reviewing scientific materials and reports; summarizing information; abstracting data.
Scientific document development: help to write scientific protocols, proposals, presentations, abstracts,
manuscripts, and technical reports; update documents during on-going interactions with internal and
external parties such as clients and outside contractors (e.g., editors, programmers).
Budget development and timeline management: create detailed budget spreadsheets for project
proposals and implementation; oversee project tasks to comply with budgets and timelines; conduct
overall coordination of modeling project tasks from project initiation to implementation and
completion.
The successful candidate will possess strong programming skills, excellent verbal and written communication,
and the abilities to work independently, multi-task, be detail-oriented, and work under deadline. Experience in
health services research or related field, and interest in the pharmaceutical industry and medical/health science,
are preferred.
Requirements:
Masters in science, programming, or health-related field
2-3 years health-services research experience
Command of health economic modeling methods, including Markov and microsimulation models
Expertise in programming, including use of Excel (including Visual Basic) and TreeAge
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in team environment
