Yes, I'll leave one on file for you at the Math Learning Center, with an envelope for the
staff to use to mail it to me.

Mr. Taylor,
I have to work all day on the next scheduled exam, Feb. 14. Do you think I could
reschedule it for another day?

Mr. Taylor,
Could you please email financial aid to verify my attendance in your class? I am on
campus right now. If you could do that ASAP that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Amber,

I just exerimented with my computer running Windows XP and Internet Exporer. I was
able to set mine so that it behaved the same way. Then I found that you can override that
feature in two ways.

1. Click on Tools in the Explorer menu, then select Popup Blocker, and choose to turn it
off.

2. If you get the little window asking if you want to take the assesment now, hold down
the Ctrl key as you click on OK.

Either of these may work on your computer. Let me know if this solves the problem. If
you use #1, you may want to reset the popup blocker after you finish with Math 99 for
that session.

Mr. Taylor,
On all of the homework links that say HW1 etc. when I click on them it says, "A pop up
window was blocked" and it won't let me go in. ???

I've received some questions about homework and grades, so here are some details.

Homework:

My intention is that the homework problems are practice and do not need to be handed in.
If you wish you can mail them to me at 15828 NE 91st Way, Redmond, WA 98052.
Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return. I will look them over and try to
give feedback on technique and content.

On the page where you find the list of homework problems, also study the examples
listed. The HWQ type of tests are based partly on the examples.

The homework problems are for practice. What you are evaluated on are the multiple-
choice homework quizzes, labeled HWQ1_2, etc. These are found by clicking on Course
Documents, then Quizzes. This type of quiz is multiple-try. There is a quiz of this type
for each of the 40 book sections we cover.
You can take any test at any time - the earlier the better. For each chapter there are the
multiple-try HWQ quizzes on each section, and the one-try test on the chapter.

T1Samp is multiple try, at any time, for practice for Thursday. Then I"ll make another
form of Test 1 available.

Grades:

Some students have had difficulty with the mechanics of submitting answers. You may
have technical problems during a quiz. On the one-try quizzes, I can reset your quiz so
that you can start over if necessary. In other cases, I can review your answers
(Blackboard saves everything) and adjust credit for answers.

You can view your grades: Click on Tools, View Grades. The page you get has dates for
each item, but these are the date I created the item, not the day for you. At the bottom is
an overall percentage. I’ll create a “perfect student” who proceeds on the schedule and
gets full credit. I’ll periodically email you as to his score, so you can compare your total
with his.

I hope that this helps you get a "feel" for the course. There are a lot of details to absorb.

John
