Objective of the Study Visit:
Objective of the study visit is to approach the broad EU legislative procedures to the Croatian officials in order to
adapt the Croatian legislation to the EU and help with the implementation. Objective of the sudy visit is related to
organization of the inspection system, sampling methods and procedures, detection and interpretation of the results,
etc.

c) Outline of your current situation concerning the EU legislation indicated and mention any
recent developments that may be relevant in this regard (e.g. give details of the stage of
preparation of the legislation, outline the timetable for the adoption of the legislation etc.)
-GM food and feed is regulated by the GMO Act (OG 70/2005) and the Food Act (OG 46/2007) as well as through the
following subordinate legislation:
- Ordinance on the conditions to be fulfilled by laboratories for testing, control and monitoring of GMOs and products
containing GMOs (OG 98/04);
- Ordinance on the content and method of keeping the Register of GMOs and the method of calculating printout costs
(NN 125/07);
- Ordinance on the content and scope of the risk assessment for placing on the market GMOs or products containing
and/or consisting of or derived from GMOs, the risk assessment methodology and the requirements to be met by legal
persons carrying out risk assessment (NN 39/08).
- Regulation on the threshold for genetically modified organisms in products below which such products need not be
labelled as products containing genetically modified organisms when placed on the market (in publication procedure);
- Ordinance on the content of the application and dossier for the placing on the market of GMOs or products containing
and/or consisting of or derived from GMOs and on the requirements for the labelling and packaging of GMOs or
products containing and/or consisting of or derived from GMOs (in publication procedure);
- Ordinance on the requirements and procedure for granting authorisation for the placing on the market of GM food ad
GM feed (in publication procedure).

Please list in detail the issues you would like to discuss with the experts of the Member State administration, such as
implementing regulations, infrastructure, strategies, training and any other elements of relevance:
Aim of this study visit is introduction with UK GMO inspection and detection system. Croatia is working to set-up the
system which will be in line with the EU. Thus, in order to make effective system Croatia would like to learn from the
experience of the EU. Special attention should be put on organization of the inspection, sampling methods, detection,
interpretation of the results, public information, monitoring,waste treatment, handling requests for permits and
approvals of different GMO use, etc.
