Habitat for Humanity ReStore Volunteer Coordinator Intern

Communication, Marketing/Public Relations, Business, or a related field of study


Where: Habitat for Humanity Restore, Charlotte, NC
The first Habitat ReStore in Charlotte was opened in 1996 as a fundraising division of Habitat
for Humanity of Charlotte. With two locations, the ReStore funds the building of 10-12 new
Habitat homes each year, bringing the community closer to reaching the goal of eliminating
substandard housing in Charlotte, NC. The mission of the Habitat ReStore is tri-fold: to increase
the number of homes built for low-income families; to prevent usable items from being put in
landfills; and to provide quality building materials to the general public at discounted prices.
When: August 2012- March 2013 (with the option of staying through the end of the school year)
Commitment: minimum of 5-10 hours per week in the fall, increasing to minimum of 10-15 in the
spring semester

Internship, The Autism Foundation of the Carolinas (AFC)
Our organization is offering internships, practicums and volunteer opportunities for local college
students looking to work with children and families affected by autism.
     Enhance, maintain and generalize skills
     Conducted in the comfort of the child’s home, and/or in the community
     Gives college students a hands-on, real-life experience
     Creates friendships that last a lifetime
The University Autism Outreach Program
AFC is helping to build a new generation of leaders who understand existing and often
overlooked segments of our community. The goal is to provide real-life experiences for
undergraduate and graduate students in the autism community by pairing students seeking
internships/ practicums or volunteer hours with families affected by autism. Students help these
children with life skills, academics, fine and gross motor tasks, social and play skills, and most
importantly, developing a friendship. In addition, AFC maximizes this experience by providing
administrative support, training and on-going consultation.

Summer Film internship, SusieFilms
Susie Films (http://www.susiefilms.com) is a film, television and branded entertainment
production company with offices in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte. We are seeking a
summer intern who may be interested in learning about the filmmaking business. This will be an
unpaid internship with flexible hours (10-15 hours per week) which will give the individual the
opportunity to have a behind-the-scenes look at how projects are pitched, filmed, scored and
edited. Anticipated tasks include the following:
•      Managing social networking activity for Susie Films (Facebook, Twitter)
•      Updating Susie Films’ IMDB on-line profile
•      Registering/applying for awards and generating other promotional activity for recently
released documentary, Overdraft
