                                               than the
                                               BBC does.
                                               For a lot
                                               less.

                                      Irrelevant. It matters not
                                      whether commercial TV
                                      costs each house
£1000 per year and the BBC
only £10. It is the principle
                                      of forcing
                                      people to pay for something
whether they want to use it
                                      or not, that
                                      is wrong.

After 2012 it will be a relatively simple
                              matter to encrypt BBC
channels on all of the digital platforms
                              (satellite and cable already
have the option in place) IMV something
                              they should seriously look
into, as it would at a stroke put a stop all of
                              these seemingly endless
arguments and debates, people who wanted
                              to subscribe could then pay
their annual £149 (or whatever by then)
                              subscription fee leaving the
rest of the population free not to be treated
                              as criminals simply for
                              owning a TV receiver..

At which point it ceases to be PSB and would *have* to start
                      producing
*only* the type of programmes that would attract
                      subscribers.

You mean it would have to stand or fall on the quality of its output,
which is as it should be, my guess is that even now they probably get
higher viewing figures than any of the commercial channels, so actually
allowing the consumer some choice in the matter may not turn out to be
              such a disaster after all.

Which is precisely why The BBC and HM Government are so opposed to

Really? Who's stopping you writing to anyone to complain about it, setting
up an anti−BBC/LF web site and gaining support for your cause? No−one, that
I can see.

Of course, someone's already had such a web site going for a number of years
now. Has it actually got anyone anywhere?
